Sorry to rain on your parade but the Mig 29 AVT (thrust vectoring) as demonstrated at Farnborough and at RIAT last summer made that F22 demo look rather tame, albeit impressive in its own right. I watched the Mig at Farnborough with a group of professional pilots, both civil and military, we were absolutely awestruck at its quite amazing agility, and incredible engine handling.

Overall I'm sure the F22 is a better fighter, with better weapons, radar and range, BUT never underestimate the sheer agility of the Mig 29 AVT.

Regards,

David Gladwin.

Considering the stats on the F-22 are clasified I'm willing to bet that the demo is no where near the limits of the plane.

compared to the agility of the mig's and su's the F-22 is far top-heavy!
Most of the "spectacular" capabilities are simply marketing and propaganda news.
It is, no doubt, a quite impressive Bomber, and impressive carrier for weapons, but it is never a fighter.

Even I like the plane because of its ugly appearance

Boring..

The 22 may be an extremely advanced bird but so far classified or not the Migs and SU's are slapping it all over the board with the exception of its stealth capabilties.

First of all ,(I Just don't think) That they are in the Same class , for Aerobatics ,it is hard to beat a Jet with canards,Look. It is simple, when Pulling the elevator alone to lift the "nose" makes the F-22 Aerodynamicly Heavier , the canards just Lift the fuselaje, and since they are up front They are more sensitive ,and can do it a slower speed ( Just Try Eurosport )
I think that Will be hard to come up with any "New maneouveres " with no tools. But I still Think the F-22 Looks Good !

A bomber and not a fighter????

Wow! I see this plane daily, but considering yours and another french member's expertise on the raptor, I guess I should reconsider what I actually know.[X(]

Exactly! Its ALL marketing and propaganda. as it is with the eurofighter and the flanker/fulcrum types. Additionally, what is being said here, regarding the raptor is simply speculation....and misinformed speculation at that. The statement "the Migs and SU's are slapping it all over the board with the exception of its stealth capabilties." is a good example.... as impressive as the stealth capability is, it is the raptor's avionics suite that is never factored in.......or could that be because no one knows anything about it????

Parlour tricks performed and limited to a few thousand feet for the eyes of a ground audience will never give a perfect picture of the true capabilities of ANY fighter/pilot combo.

I always suggest, letting the Raptor speak for itself....I'm sure it will. one way or the other.

the mig29 ovt handles better because its strip out of avionics the raptor has all of its weapon systems minus missile i know the raptor lacks of yaw vector deflection on its tail feather where the mig has 360 degree.. i am not sure how the f22 creates yaw control .. i think its when one nozzle its up and the other one down.. may be it creates some kind of coupling in the air frame when its on a spin this is got me baffled.. both machines are impressive to watch at air shows
will they ever meet i don't think so

Considering the Mig 29 looks like the Titanic coming at you on radar, I would go with the F-22.

I have Always wonder?? if...." they "....really, CAN'T see ( Stealth) Airplanes , ..I Iike to think that Yes they CAN, ....but?? ...they will say all the way, That they don't .and they can't ...so we are Happy.!!..
will you tell the "Other side" if you can clearly see them??

I Just don't think so !!... So ?...what do you think??

Same History ,... In WWII,..Great Britain with the "Enigma" code breaker, knew where and how the Action was going to be ,, but sometimes didn't do Anything, so the other team will not suspect and change anything.......

To me ,,,,Unless you Dissapear , there is no stealth...!!

I believe I'd take the supercruise, stealth, and invisible active radar over the flippity flops. How often in real life are an F22 and a Mig or Su going to be dogfighting in the aerobatic box?

well you never know... theres a reason they can fly like that in the first place

ive just had a thought , how well can these thrust vectoring jets perform things that the propeller aerobatic planes can do... like theyre gonna be alot heavier but will their power to weight ratio, as well as the newfangled control schemes make up for it?

There is no benefit in displaying the F-22's extreme flight capabilities for marketing sake. The F-22 is currently not for sale and if and when it finally is, the USA will already have its superior replacement.

In the real world.. the airshow capabilities are meaningless. It all comes down to the guy doing the driving.

I've seen non vector thrust Su's give better demo's than that to be honest

The first time the bad guys driving the Migs will suspect there are any Raptors neighborhood will be when they hear the loud boom and get the dreaded double fire light indications. So in the big scheme you dont drive a Raptor to a knife fight, you shoot the bad guys from miles away and return to the o'club for a cold beer!

Tom, You have got that right !! The demo at an airshow means nothing about the factual capability of the F-22. The Raptor is a BVR (beyond visual recognition) fighter. During a dog fight, if the Mig pulls its nose up for a lock on, it loses all its energy and becomes a big fat, slow target for anyone else in the sky!! Its a great trick but its of no use in air combat. Once the Raptor lets off the missiles and turns for the club, all the SU's are going to hear and see are warning lights and a wingman going in, tough to out manuver a missile fired from miles away thats traveling super-sonic.
