Default BVM Maverick Wheel Size??

Hi,

I am converting a BVM MAverick to turbine and would like to find out from guys who have done it, what wheel size to use off grass. The wheels that came with it seem to measure 2 1/4 for the nose and 2" for the mains. They are going to be too small for sure.

Thanks!

Brian

Brian if you are going to a bigger wheel you will also need to change the brakes.

Order BVM 2 5/8 mains and 2 1/4 nose wheels
you can also try 3" mains and 2 5/8" nose

Hey Alan,

I was just going to order a whole new set of wheels and brakes. I was looking at Tam. Either of these. What do you think?

Brian, you will have to contact Tam and see what the axel diameter is and if the brakes will work with the BVM struts.

If the axel is the same and the brakes fit properly around the BVM strut you should be OK, You can save yourself a few bucks or just go with the BVM stuff and you know it will fit and work.

You shoud also check what is the biggest diameter wheel that will fit in the retract bay first.

Std BVM sport main tires for this airplane are 2.5" and the nose is 2.25". I suppose if you go up by.25-.5 " on each that should suffice. If your grass is short and firm you should be able to get by with standard sizes I would think.

I would reccomend you buy a set of BVM tape on wing leading edge droops. These will help reduce stall speed and lesson the likleyhood of droping a wing tip at or near stall which might occur at liftoff from grass is you have to force it into the air at a somewhat slow speed.
