SIMULATORS
Just curious how the masses feel about the RC simulators out there. How realisitically do they simulate flying RC Jets and how well do they prepare you for that first jet flight? I have the Aerofly Pro Deluxe simulator with a lot of turbine jets on it that I have flown for countless hours, but have not flown real a turbine yet. What are your thoughts?

RE: SIMULATORS
In AFPD your turbine gives thrust on every click of the stick. In reality turbines don't. You only feel something starting from 1/4 throttle.
Try to fly it with a bit of expo, because on almost every jet they recommend expo.
For the rest it's 'almost' the same.

RE: SIMULATORS
Hi Koeniboy!
Ever flown a Harpoon with a 160-size engine? I only fly idle to 1/ throttle for normal flying, including slow rolls and everything :-)
I love my AFPD. Big fun, but nothing to real flying.

RE: SIMULATORS
Hi, login as many hours SIM flying as you can. Maybe contribute 20 percent preparation of the actual rc jet flying.
those jets on the SIM can never illustrate the real one especially the real turbine is spinning.
But If you have heart for it, you will be there!
Cheers!

RE: SIMULATORS
If you want to prepare for your first jet flight, here a few tips.
On landing, come in low enough and slow enough.
If you're not sure of coming slow enough, cut the engine on approach...
And for the rest, go for it !!

RE: SIMULATORS
I use AFPD on a daily basis, 1 hour minimum. I mostly use it to practice new 3D manouvers and IMAC sequences, but lately I've been usig it to develop my own scale jet manouvers. For 3D trainig it has been great. My R/C YAK 54 hovers a lot easier than in the Sim. Also, my model F-16 is so much easier to land than in the sim.

RE: SIMULATORS
I actually learned to fly helicopters and turbines on a simulator.
Many years ago I bought a sim called Ambrosia Aero Chopper
fairly cheesy graphics but realistic heli flying.
When I purchased my first heli I was bored of hovering
my first 5 minutes of flight and graduated that same day
into forward flight and the rest was history. When I wanted to learn
how to fly turbines I purchased Real Flight and all of the add ons I flew
every jet on the sim until I could do it in my sleep.
I purchased my first turbine a Cermark MB339 and the rest was history, I did the maiden
flight and flew like a pro my first time out landing took a few go arounds but all went very well.
Simulators graduate you very quick you can get use to the speed of a turbine as well as some of the flying characteristics.
I owe my low inverted flight skills and precision flying all to simulators and hours of practice...
