Default FB VELOX WEIGHT

Has any body got there Velox yet?
Friend of mine got his today it looks very good( orange and yellow )
But was wondering do you guys feel that it is a bit heavy?
Going to get a scale and weight it tonight , just by lifting it assembled but empty i am unsure about him putting in his super sport in it now.
Just wondering what you guys were going to use for a turbine............
Thanks..................

I just weighed my new Velox today (received it yesterday), and here's what I got:

Fuselage with FeiBao retracts/struts/wheels, and canopy: 2900 gm = 6.39 lbs
Wings & wing tube, horizontal stabilizer, L&R booms: 3000 gm = 6.61 lbs
Servo mounts, control surface hardware, fuel tank: 565 gm = 1.25 lbs

Total Airframe Weight: 6465 gm = 14.25 lbs

Wren SuperSport, fuel pump, ECU, 2100 mah Li-Po, valves, start propane tank: 1360 gm = 3.00 lbs
JR Servos (8), 4300 mah Li-Po, misc electronics: 850 gm = 1.87 lbs

Total RTF Dry Weight: 8675 gm = 19.13 lbs

So just over ~19 lbs dry is the estimate for my plane...

pst

Mine weighs just under 19lbs dry with two 2400nimh + one 1800 nimh batteries. Wren Superspot (manual start) flies perfectly at that weight.

Hi all here is another weight; Velox vs Phoenix
Phoenix wing, no servos or spar 2 lb 6oz; Velox 2 lb 12 oz
Phoenix booms 2 lb 6 oz; Velox 2 lb 8 oz
Phoenix stab 13 oz; Velox stab 13oz
Phoenix fuse 5lb 4 oz; Velox 6 lb 12 oz
Phoenix total =10 lb 13 oz; Velox total=12 lb 13 oz
Behotec retracts, trailing leg struts, wheels &brakes in Phoenix, no tank or spar
FB retracts, struts, wheelsand brakes in Velox; no tank or spar
Velox wing is only 9.6 % thick with high point at 30 % cord at wing panrl root rib. Phoenix is 14.1 % thick at same point. Velox stalls should be at higher speed, sudden and sharp. Don't try to s-t-r-e-a-c-h it on landing or it might fall out from under you (full scale expression)
Velox heavier fuse is because of thicker skin & stiffer construction. Velox wing area is about 1066 in^2. Phoenix is about 1600 in^2 so wing loading is significantly less.
Hope this gives you a better feel for it.
Regards
Fleet Wing

Fleet Wing

Have you flown either of these models? I have built and flown both. The Velox will fly just as slow as the Phoenix despite the higher weight and thinner wing section. I think your wing area of 1600 sq. in. for the Phoenix is wrong, it is not that much bigger than the Velox. Finally the quality of the Phoenix is nothing like as good as the Velox, the Phoenix fuselage is flimsy and the paint is very poor, you do not get a fuel tank in the kit or a clear canopy, it is also £200 more expensive in the UK than the Velox.
