Default Are 5645's ok for jets?

I am looking at servos for the JL Hawk and I am wondering if anyone uses Hit 5645's. They say 130-40oz of torque. Thanks

I love Hitec digitals... but will not use those for critical functions, particularly elevators.
Otherwise, I would not mind use them.

5645 is the worst servo I have ever come across in this hobby.

Sean,
Don't beat around the bush, tell us how you really feel about the 5645.

You're right, that is Sugar Coating it. I was going to simply say that that servo is a piece of *****.

I've built close to 20 Turbine Jets in 5 years. I have yet to see an application that a 5645 would be good for.

I have them in a 50cc airplane and they are great! I guess i will find something else since they are no good for jets ( Iread between the lines since you were beating around the bush)!

I have never had a problem with the 5645's. I have five of them in a 29% Giles with over a 100 flights and those same servos were in a 1/4 scale Extra that experienced a mid-air. The Extra had over a hundred flights and before that, they were in a 1/4 GP Giles which I was thrilled to finally total as it was a piece of junk. I just changed the gearsets when they went into my new Giles. I also have them in my Reaction 54 and they have never had a problem.

I have them on the rudder, ailerons and flaps on my Facet 2300. No issues (130 flights).

I have them on the elevons, canards, rudder and nose wheel steering in my EuroSport. No issues (40 flights).

All were tested and adjusted with the Hitec programmer before installation.

BTW ...I just bought some more to go into my YA F-15 that I may finish someday.

I have 6 in my jet (2 x elevator, 2 x aileron, 2 x flap) and have never had any problems with them. Like Gary I set them up & tested them with the programmer. - John.

A friend has used them in a Rookie on the elevons and canards no problem.

I put them in a Roo on all control surfaces no problem EVEN on the canards which I added to the Roo and made functional.

The very early ones needed an update to run two on a Y cable with Futaba PCM Rx.
They were fine two on a Y with futaba PPM (FM) Rx.

If you look hard enough you will find that somebody, somewhere, has had a problem with a servo even high end JR and Futaba.

I'll agree with Sean, although not so emphatically!

The 56XX series are inferior to the 59XX series. The 56XX series have far less precise centering that the 59XX. It will certainly show up on any relatively sensitive air frame, particularly on the ailerons as that trim has the most visible effect. I fought with a pair of 5625's for ~2 years, all the while thinking it was a problem with the aircraft. The servos were programmed with the minimum dead band, so I thought they'd be OK. I switched them for a pair of 5945's and the problem was non existent. That's proof enough for me. I'd use a 56XX for a speed brake or flaps, etc, but in that case there's no point in going digital so I'd stick to a 645MG...

Hi Sean
I don't know anything about HS 5645's but would like to learn so could you please give some information on what falts impressed you? was it jittering, centering, resolution, gear train failure or it just died? How many units have you seen? Your servos or friends? It is great to give an up front summation but some solid data would benefit the unknowing.
Regards

Centering like the guy said, on an aileron application in a jet.

When I called Hitec about this (round 3 years ago) at first they wanted to tell me this servo was as a good as an 8411.

Then when we called Hitec about the servo not holding true in flight the response was "You need to pick the right servo for your application".

I remember thinking that the word "Hitec" was not in that response. Just "The right servo".

I never used their ***** ever again.
