Default Battery supplier?

Hi everyone,

In the past I have used SR batteries (NiCd) almost exclusively. I need a change

I am looking for a relaible supplier that used top quality cells in full custom configuration. I want custom cell counts and lead wires. I will primarily be looking for high quality NiMH cells by the way.

So far I am impressed with Hangtime hobbies webpage ( http://www.hangtimes.com/ ) but since I am buying batteries and not web design service I thought I would ask here.

Thanks in advance,

I've used Radical RC a couple of times, with no problems.

I've also used Cermark for custom ECU packs - they did put the pack together well, but ignored my instructions about lead length for some reason.

Matt,
SR and Hangtimes look to be the same batteries except that Hangtimes stuff sells for about half the price of SR. If you go to both websites you would see a lot of identical pictures, assembly techniques and specifications etc. All my jets use SR nicads and I am more than pleased with the performance of these batteries but I am real curious about Hangtines stuff. Anyone got any info on Hangtimes?

Thanks Gordon and Edgar. I will check out radical as well.

Al, I first heard of SR from my UAV work back in 1993, I was consulting at a start up with Bob Parks, and they turned me onto SR batteries. That was all they used. They were (are) some of the best and brightest engineers and modelers I have ever been around so that made an impression on me.

But that was almost 15 years ago, and as the years have gone by, SR has always given good service, and I really like their burn in procedures they do, but for these prices they seem to be somewhat behind the curve on NiMH to say nothing of lithiums.

NoBS battereis impressed with with their detailed technical content on their website so I thought I would give some new companies a try. I got to tell you that weld is the key, and I never had a weld break on an SR, but again NoBS looks good (see the welds below)

The guy who owns Hangtimes, Steve Anthony, worked at SR batteries for a long time. He built the batteries at SR then moved on to open his own company, NoBS batteries. The two batteries are identical but the SR batteries cost a whole lot more. I use nothing but NoBS batteries for my airborne and transmitter batteries, great quality batteries and outstanding customer support!!

Dave Elsinger and I have used SR for the last 5+ years, but they are pricing themselves out of the market.......We have switched to Andy Low at ElectroDynamics for our batteries, switches, and custom servo wires......I use Sanyo SCR Nicads, but Andy also has NiMH.....

Custom bat wiring no problem.....anything you want....nice silicone wire....

His packs are properly welded, stress relieved with strapping tape, cells bonded together with a hard, clear silicone, and tightly shrink wrapped.....

Just another option....

I haven't tried Steve Anthony's bats yet, but heard nothing but good reports....Giant Scale guys seems to like his stuff....

The nobs stuff looked good, but I just have a bit of hard time bringing myself to order from people who call themselve "nobs" ("No_BS" with a separator would be better) ... for me it would be kinda like ordering radio gear from a company called "wankers"

I have NO BS batts in all my jets, warbirds, and aerobatic planes. Have been impressed so far. Steve at NO BS is simply one of the 'in the know' battery guys I have ever talked to. Basically, you are buying the same quality as SR at about 1/2 the price. (Steve built most all of SR's packs for years while there) Hope this helps-Mike Oberst

I just ordered and received my first batteries from Hangtime. Very very quick shipping. Batteries were just as described. Everything went as smooth as it possibly could from ordering online. They impressed me...

Matt,

I've been using Nimh from CheapBatteryPacks. He doesn't always have what you might want, but can put it together any way you want when he does.

You might also want to call Doug (Afterburner1). He has a place local where he gets some nice Sanyo NIMH packs made.

Rick
