If you set your model up on trestles at the flying site you will find that the rear fuselage is not strong enough to take the weight of the model unless supported at the former!!
I have about .5mm of up aileron always. You can get a flick roll quite easily with that big rudder so it is safer like this. With the air brake mixed in with flap it slows down pretty well even with quite a high idle thrust .

In case you lose, like me, during transportation to the field one or more of the bolts holding the wings (originals are 6-32 x 16mm) :

DUBRO #179 - Socket Head Bolt Sets With Lock Nuts - Size 6-32 x 1"

These bolts are longer and can be prevented to fall out the fuselage wing holders by using the secure nuts at the very ends.
The L-39 needs eight bolts, these Dubro sets are packed by 4 pcs each.

Hope this little hint helps.

Nicolas.

Has anyone had this problem. We are building 2 L39's, one went together just fine, but I am having problems with the elevators on the other one.
One side does not go in the stab far enough so the screws in the elevator reach the control rod. Had to grind off about 1/8" on the front of the elevator to get it to reach &
the screws still barely touch the control rod. Same problem on the other side plus they drilled the holes over too far & 1 screw dos'ent even touch the control rod. We tried
opening up the slot so we could then grind down the rod & make it fit. But the holes are so far left we went all the way through the inside of the aluminum piece thats glued into the elevator. I emailed jetlegend a couple times no answer, also sent email to cermark who I think is a dist. for them, no answer. Great customer service after the product is purchased!

Are you sure you are using the right rod and not the one for the airbrake? I did have a slight problem with mine also, it did not give identical throws until it was modified.

As the rods of the elevators will be, unlike the rods of the ailerons (because the wing tip tanks are removable and holding the aileron servos), permanently installed in the elevators, I would not care too much about the position of the set screws and the factory misalignment. Simply glue the rods permanently with 5 minutes epoxy in the elevators and don't look back. No way you would ever need to take them out.
Don't wait for the hassle of the factory eventually sending you new elevators. It isn't worth your valuable time, frustration and caused stress !
I didn't like the idea of eventually failing set screws or thread locker either and did the same, as Murphy is someone I never liked in this hobby.
Just my 2 cents...

Nicolas.

Yes we had already decided to glue everything in as our next option, seeing you will never take them apart. But when you buy something & it is wrong the manufacturer should get back to you & do something.

As a person that has been selfemployed for 35 years, when a customer has a problem he is taken care of NOW!

I am all better now (LOL), time to move on.

Same as with the gear doors : tape the air brake flush with the fuselage after you applied enough Aeropoxy/Hysol on the feet.
Of course you have been grinding with a rotary dremel tool slots in the top side skin of the airbrake first where the feet are supposed to nestle in.
Check at least four times during slow curing process if they haven't moved.
For the fences/covers supplied in the kit : same system as with the flap rod covers : in tiny marks, it is visible on the fuselage where to put them just in front of the two air brake arms.

Are the elevator hinge pockets pre drilled or did you drill them.
Thanks.

Hi Nicolas
what system did you use to connect air pipes from wing to fuse have you any photos

Robart #190 Quick Disconnects, the connector wing side glued to the wing (with ZAP-A-GOO).
Two for the IN-OUT of the retracts, the third one for the wheel brakes.
I used three different colours of air tubing.

(Sorry the pics attached were for another illustration purpose but you can see them well here)

Default RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?

Just finished hinging (except flaps) and setting up airbrakes tonight...I did stiffen the fuse up a bit using ribbons of 1/4" uni CF up front and 1" wide strips of uni CF cloth in the rear, that helps tremendously on the bottom side (done for handling/carrying, rather than airworthiness concerns). I also need to file/grind the airbrake blades quite a bit as well as beveling the forward edges at a 45 degree angle. I also needed a 1/16" gap at the front edge of the AB blade 'fingers' (hinges?).

I did notice that the fuse bottom around the airbrakes flexes quite a bit, if I pushed in the fuse a little between the AB blades they would bind up...I added some CF cloth in the area between them from the former up to the fuse joint. A real pain to do after the rotation rod and related structure was glued in, but it solved that problem. I would suggest to anyone building this model to do the same before gluing in the AB assembly.

Very impressed with the quality of the mechanical components, the retracts and gear look great! They are big and heavy, going to use a BVM hi flow air valve to ensure they go up reliably.

Just wish they packed the heavy bits stored inside the fuse better, I had two chunks of ply formers broken out and a small hole in the fuse bottom from stuff moving around during shipping. No biggie, however.

I just finished my airbrakes today as well!! Touched up the paint a bit with Tamiya Bright Red spray. I found the area stiffens up alot more when the fuel tank mount gets glued into place as well.

Tomorrows job is finishing the elevator!! then it's the rudder and then i'm ready for equipement install!
