RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Here I added a bit more flaps, and this was already too much, almost stalled the plane as the spool-up of the turbine was not fast enough for this situation...

Taxiing back to the pits, here you can clearly see the nose-down sit on the ground, the spring in the oleo strut is way too soft.

And... not to my honour and pride [&o], here the pic how deep the bird went through its legs due to landing too slow and at the last seconds adding too much flaps...
The JetLegend landing gear is simply excellent, it absorbed this heavy impact with no damage or distortion whatsoever !
So, I can really say with experience [:@] and confidence [8D] the landing gear is designed for its task !
Best Regards,
Nicolas.

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Nice Job Nicolas,
I like the way the Camo Scheme looks.
I have had 4 flights now on mine, and have changed a few things. I replaced the front nose strut spring with a heavy duty one, The jet now sits level and looks better on take off. I also painted the wing tanks red from blue. The blue was hard to see in the AZ blue sky. I think I am going to add some red to the tail also.
Besides that, she handles great and landings are smooth and fun. I would also be interested perhaps (based on price, the US dollar stinks right now) on your custom servo and internal trays, please let me know $$$,,, thanks and again congrats to you on a great thread, and wonderful results.

Hi Kevin
Thanks and congrats to you too !
You're right, the overcast sky really added a lot to the 'drama' of the scenery and the Camo scheme. High time to insert some pilots in the cockpit !
Sent you a PM.
Nicolas.

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Well done to both, Kevin & Nicolas.
Nicolas, nice to see a pilot own up to an error in judgement re too much flap on landing approach.
What are your recomendations as to degree of flap for take off & landing.
I have decided to go for the camo scheme when one becomes available, it seems to show up well against an overcast sky.
All the best, & again congratulations,
John C
Kevin,
How did it perform on the 120 turbine?

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
John,
The Jet Cat P120 actually has been a nice combination. I still have a Titan on order that i will use in it, but for anyone how wants to fly with The P120, it seems to work well. Even with the P120 I am still flying at half stick (or slightly higher) and it is plenty. As Nicolas and I have discovered, you need to move all heavy items to the front of the jet, and you may still need lead. I just received my scale cockpit set, and it has some weight to it, so I may be able to remove some lead that I placed in nose cone area.
Here is a pic.
Cheers.

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Very interested too in a scale cockpit and pilot figures...
And yes, the first trays left today at noon by air mail. I smell big business ! hahaha
Tomorrow I'll post all the settings.
On my next flights, I'd like to see how this plane behaves on landing approach WITHOUT flaps, I think it will be even less tricky and more predictable than with flaps, and perhaps the right way to follow unless we can get rid of the church roof tiles in the nose somehow ?
And, as was expected, the belly spoiler really is a gadget, does not contribute at all to anything except to the show factor.
Nicolas.

Kevin, Ref post 105. I assume your mod worked as you have flown the machine. Seems an easier fix than making a new servo hole, plus rod. Are you happy with the results. Thanks Wayne

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Wayne,
The Mod I did is straight forward and I will post in order of what I did to get a very tight, NON-slop working rudder, with out cutting and install of conventional rudder servo set up.
1. I used JR 8711 but I think a JR 8611 or futaba similar servo will work.
2. I used a Hangar 9 HAN3574 HD 1/2 servo arm 4-40 JR
3. The pin that comes with the kit I tossed, and used a 4-40 3/4 inch bolt.
4. I threaded the bolt through the servo arm at the first hole from the center, going up and used a lock nut to tighten down on the aluminum arm. After that I used a dremel and smoothed out the threads at the upper 1/2 inch of the 4-40 bolt.
5. The tail section came with a cut out in an arc movement, I suppose to fit the pin through that and will engage into the metel block on the rudder. Use this initial arc cut out and dremmel away the fiber glass about 1/2 toward the rear of the jet. you should have an open square shape. Now that you have opened up the hole where the pin fits into the rudder metel block, trial fit the servo set up into the tail servo opening and fit the pin into the metel block channel and position the pin slightly before the end point in the channel. Hold the servo with your hand and with RX and TX on see if the tail moves with out binding. Keep in mind the total travel of the tail is 1/4 left and right. So adjust your throws on the TX on ATV to very low, +/- 20%. It took me a few trys to position everything right, and to make sure the pin was in the channel properly.
6. I glued the servo into place using a TAM Jet servo mount $10 USD. When the Aero Poxy was dry the set up was perfact.
With this said, I have 4 flights and have not seen a problem yet. So there you have it.
Good Luck.
Kevin

Hello,
I think, in the nearest future it will be a new scheme available.
It will be like our colour, showed at Saturday on Jet power 2007.

Kevin, Thanks, I will try your mod. I to used Tams mounts on all servos. Hope I don't need to move the rudder one! Aeropoxy is strong. Wayne

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
I had a few hours to spare today so of course I went to the field.
I put in 2 flights on my BVM King Cat and one more flight on the JL L-39. Thats 5 flights on this bird to date. I must say that I thought the King Cat lands slow, "forget about it" with landing flaps on, speed brake at 45 deg and a mild head wind, this bird landed slow enough I could have plucked it out of the sky. My flying buddy Ron, could not believe how slow it came in.
When landing, I had the jet at 1/2 throttle through the base leg, on final I started to slowly reduce throttle and just before she hit the edge of the run way I chopped the throttle to idle, because of a slight head wind while flying today, I may need to chop throttle to idle slightly sooner. Never the less, she slowed down nicely and with gradual up elevator she landed on the mains and settled down on the front nose. It was awesome!!!
To anyone who has PM me directly, Yes I like this jet, and I would recommend it.

Can you show a little more detail on the rudder fix you did. How is the arm connected to the rudder.
Thanks

If the original set-up would work for you (see Kevins' post), then do that one. It is nicer than an external link. However, I tried it and for me it didn't work out. The key to success is a slop free bolt in the alu track of the rudder. Perhaps I should have tried again but with a modified bolt as per Kevins' idea.
Kevin, could you give me your very precise CG location please, with empty tanks (only BVM UAT filled) ?
Thanks,
Nicolas.

RE: What do you think about JETLEGEND L39?
Nicolas,
Here is my CG at 5 1/4 inch from leading edge. Note that I started at the back notch and felt the bird was a little tail heavy. Being tail heavy may have lead to your stall?? Also note that the 5 1/4 inch wraps around the curve of the leading edge, take a piece of tape measure 5 1/4 inch and tape it on the wing at same location as shown. I use my finger to balance below the air intake ducts.
Lets hear of your next flights.

Kevin & Nicolas,
What degrees / angle of flap are you using for takeoff & landing?
Also throws on the rest of the surfaces?
Thanks,
John C
