RE: Which country can match the F-22
The radar and and weapons systems are cutting edge, probably nothing out there to compare.
Aerodynamic aspects of the airframe and powerplant are very good, however there are others out there.

The Su-30 is a pretty brutial fighter. Here's a side by side video with a F-22 in airshow manuvers...

Don't forget that the Raptor requires its own dedictated tanker (don't let the hype confuse you....it doesn't require much gas at supercruise, but requires enourmous amounts to get there) and is soooo darn expensive and to stay stealthy it cannot carry the amount ordnance that many of the other country airframes can. It really comes down to pilot proficiency......and the U.S.A. has won that battle for a very long time.

I just came back from a California trip, and I drove by Nothrop-Grumman just south of LAX (El Segundo) to take a look at the YF-23 Black Widow - it looks sooo cool. But, then again, the Raptor must have been a better jet (or LM has better lobbyists). [8D]

As for maneuverability I guess that the Mig 29 OVT or the SU 35 are a bit better. I witnessed the 3 planes at various airshows. But before they can use their maneuverability they'll be shot down by the F22 before knowing they're under attack.
I've never understood why did they do some R&D on thrust vectoring for the F22 when it is designed to be a stealth aircraft and BVR combat aircraft. I don't even know if it has an internal gun does it?

the reason for manueverability and a gun is the same reason why they put a gun on the Phantom. If you depend to much on technology, you become an easy target. You always approach any adversary as if he has the same or better skill or ability as you. Only a fool doesnt learn from history

Keep in mind the Eagle light grey/C model the Raptor replaces has never lost in combat no matter who's been flying the jet (us/the Israelis). Both the light and dark grey Eagles' weapons/tactics are in an Air Combat Command security compartment all by themselves for good reason. The F-22 has raised the bar pretty much to off the scale.

Interesting conversation, but what do 1000 F-22's do against 100000 Chinese fighters. Technology is great, but never underestimate the power of numbers. The US is one he!! of a fighting force, there is no question, but don't be fooled. There are others out there with different tactics that don't even take into consideration technology or weapons capability.

Not a biased opinion there then!!

Well we have......our pilots tend to fly more hours per year in training than any other country. Of course our allies are catching up on that front (if not equal)
But, I'm with the last post......100 F-22's vs. China with 1,000's F-8's.......we will run out of missiles, fuel and planes quickly. Sheer numbers can defeat technology.

The F-22 will dominate the skys but kind of lame at the air show. I would still rather watch this.
