Default Dilema?

I have a Dilema.. I have 1/2" main robarts going to be put on my Rookie 2. (630 retracts) The 1/4" axel does not fit into my wheels and brakes. In the photo I am using a 3/16" axel which fits but the strut does NOT fit the brake. For the rookie do you use 7/16" strut or make the 1/2" strut fit? Am I supposed to drill out my wheels and brakes so they will accept the 1/4" axel?

Do you really need a strut that beefy for a Rookie?

I just grind flats on each side of the strut so it will fit into the brake ears. Doesn't hurt the strut, and keeps all the meat in the brake drum. Has worked for me for years. Don't grind off any more of the strut than you need to fit into the brake ears, though.

regards, Les

Grind flats on the strut that is circle, the part that won't fit. Just use your dremel with the round sandpaper attachment and dremel away till it fits.

LAST LONG TIME!

Axle's won't be a problem, 3/16" is fine, if the strut is 1/4 use a piece of brass tubing as a spacer, it will cinch up on the axel no problem. If you're good, you can even drill a hole in the brass tubing so the set screw goes through it and into the metal axle.

Here is the mod I made to fit the brakes on my Boomerang.
Notice the aluminum bushing. This is where a mini milling machine comes in handy.
I used the Dermel as sean suggested.
