Default Comp ARF Turbine Spark flies

Guys

I have finally flown the prototype Spark Turbine model.
Much of the work was done by Mike Cherry at Comp ARF with a purpose moulded tank and tailpipe carbon duct.
The basic airframe is the same as the EDF version just with a Turbine!
This model is fitted with one of my spare P60 turbines and I must admit we all thought it would be a bit high on wing loading and possibly better with an MW44.
Well the wing design was special and it works so well that the P60 weight was not a problem-It was windy in the UK today and we all know a brick will fly in a wind, but stall testing up and down wind showed a very easy going aeroplane that had to be abused to drop a wing. More testing will be done in calmer conditions.
I would say that it is a perfect aeroplane for the MW44 and 44 gold and fine for the JetCat P60 with clued in pilots.

I think at this stage that a conversion will be offered with maybe just the tank, maybe the carbon duct too.
Tail pipes from Wren etc will work well with 44 or P60 (I have a MC self rolled pipe in mine and it could be lighter) I guess more info will go up once the "boss" knows I have flown the prototype

Just been requested weight!

Mine is 5kg (about 11lb) with a little fuel left in the tank. model has brakes also.
I think 10 1/2 lb is easily possible

Great news Dave! So with a good throttle management any 14 pound engine wil be ballistic.

That means that there is no need to reinforce the electric one? And that the price will stay the same, with the exception of the T upgrade.

Guys

Yes P60 for the sensible…

Price is as Comps web site-no price for turbine bits as it’s a bit new.

P60 FOD guard- Motors & Rotors in UK or JetCat USA in states

I've flown the EDF a lot and it's really nice, I only managed three flights yesterday with the Turbine so I need to do more flying, but yes I think it will be a great addition to the range-we did try and video it but my camera man was...useless!

I did not know that the spark was going to be retrofitted with a turbine. I have a gold 44...now im getting tempted too....

Dave, are you using micro digitals? Could you list out the parts you used here?

The model use JR 3301's on the Ailerons and elevators and rudder.
I used a 3421 on the rudder

Go here and you can download the manual and it has all of the specs.

http://www.composite-arf.com.hk/ar/Product?741000

You find all the info just above the photo.

I'm putting a New EDF from Australia in mine, but I too am quite tempted to install a Gold 44.

We're talking to Andreas at Composite-ARF about fitting an MW44 GOLD into the Spark, and it looks as though it will be a very good combination.

Sarah,
That is good news. The perfect combo in my opinion.
I understand your pipe allow the motor to produce 11 lbs of thrust on a miserly 6 ounces of fuel a minute.
8 minutes flighs on 40 oz of fuel plus reserve sounds great to me.
Bob

Like Bob said the kit spec is DS 3301's

My Turbine model has a mixture of DS 3301 and DS 3401 (3421 in USA) servos. You can use side-mount DS 3301 all round.
It has retracts and brakes as per the manual spec.

The MW44 is a perfect turbine for this aeroplane, it's just flexible enough to take a 54 too!

UK guys I'll take it to CJ next friday-maybe we can get a video of it then too.

Sorry, I have the 5/32 wire legs and they are too flexible. 3/16" legs would be better.
