RE: ARF PLUS MB339
Hi F18Diamondback,
Your MB 339 ARF plus does look very nice. I'm also building a SM MB-339 (not ARF Plus) purchased from AirPac a couple week ago.
May be we can compare the difference between the ARF / ARF Plus and share some building notes?
(1) Main tires- Are yours the air fill type, mine is neither solid nor air fill... wonder if they will hold a 45lb plane? I don't have the nose wheel yet, it's backodered from AirPac.
(2) Rudder - Is your rudder comes removeable for travelling?
(3) Air cylinders for doors - Can you tell me what the size & length for nose, main & speed brake?
Regards,
Lawrence

RE: ARF PLUS MB339
Hey lawrenceRCman,
I was going to buy one from AirPac but wanted the ARF plus version....I have heard that either version flys great!
Nowthen, to your questions...
My mains are of the air fill type, the main and nose gear are VERY beefy and should deal with even the harshest of landings.
The vertical fin/rudder is indeed removable if it needs to be, however getting to the hardware would be a PITA as you would have to remove the exhaust duct to get to the bolts
The cylinders are as follows:
Nose gear doors (3ea) are approx 34mm (total length of cylinder)
The main gear doors (2ea) are approx 70mm (total length of cylinder)
Speed Brake is approx 95mm (total length of cylinder)
Nowthen, I just started working on the hinging the rudder to the fin and I can tell you I am even more glad I got the ARF Plus as I HATE to hinge surfaces. What a MAJOR PITA!!!!!
How far are you on yours?
What engine you going with?

Hi F18Diamondback,
Thank for your info. on the cylinders. I don't mine doing the hinging, but live higing do save time.
I am taking my time on building this jet, my first jet was put together in one month with the help of my buddy Kelly William,
So far I have painted all the 'Hot' area with ceramic paint, ' heat blanket' the fuse around the turbine & the bell mouth pipe.
Plumbed all three tanks in series & mounting the main tank & the saddle tanks.
IAs for power, I am going to purchase a JetCat Titan SE from JetPower USA by next week,
Regards,
Lawrence

OK, I have the rudder hinged and the servo installed.
I spent some time thinking about the servo and how to secure it in the fin. This is what I came up with....

RE: ARF PLUS MB339
Looking at you servo mount......... what's holding the servo in place? Not just a thin piece of plywood, I hope?
I have purchased the SM aluminium angle mounting bracket,
2 screws through the servo mounting lips & 2 screws secure onto the plywood blocks on each side of the servo, (the blocks comes pre-built inside the servo bay.)
Regards,
Lawrence

I can assure you that servo is not going anywhere. It is captured on all sides and locked in. The ply plate is 1/8th inch and is mearly there to hold it down in the mount. All good.

RE: ARF PLUS MB339
More build progress...
The nights task was to install the servos into the horizontal stabs. The way these are mounted is via a square hole in the root of the stab. I thought about it and came up with this mount method. The blocks are secured to the base plate with epoxy and 4 counter-sunk screws. The assembly was glued in place with hysol.
The servo arm slot was measured out and cut in place. the way to get the servo in is to manually lay the servo arm over, install the servo and the connect it up and the servo arm pops right up...pictures should cover it...
