Tamjets / Fei Bao BAE Hawk - a few questions
Hello guys,
A friend of mine just finished one of these and he has a few questions:
1. whats the correct CG position ?
2. Shall he add the wing fences, and where exactly on the wing ? do they aid in aything?
3. any special tips regarding elevators \ flaps, etc ?
4. any control throw measurements ?
thanks !

i3dm, check out the "Cali Hawk" thread. For the CG go with 165-170 cm. Wing fences I would add, I have heard wing fences on the Hawk aid greatly against tip stalling. For the position check out the thread. Throws, not sure but I am sure Tam can help you with those.

Just for your information, the wing fences should not be parallel to the Fuz centreline but about 15 degrees off. This ensures that they are stalled and create a vortice.

Do a search, there is a thread on here with all this info.
I had one and reported all the throws and CoG from the flying I did with mine.
Enjoy.

I have wing fences on mine, but flew a Skymaster Hawk last weekend without them and did not notice any difference.
Elevators I gave as much throw as possible, then dialed in some dual rates and adjusted to my flying style, same with Ailerons.
Flaps, gave all the throw I could get and mixed crow in with full flap. Have not used half flap for anything other then slow flight, no need for them on takeoff.
Mine is powered by a P-80, and I can honestly say that I dont want any more thrust. The stab mechanism is very weak looking and I am afraid it would break if overpowered, so far 15 flights and no problems, full throttle with the P-80 is plenty fast.
My advise is to fly with alot of elevator travel and expo it down to your liking, if you come out of a loop or any vertical down line maneuver the plane requires ALOT of elevator to come out of it.....kinda scary at first, but if you are ready for it, then its a no brainer.
Get plenty of rudder travel, this plane knife-edges like a champ but if you are slow it will take some movement to keep it straight.
Have fun,
Dave
