WHat do you guys think about this....?
The ole DB9 quick disconnect trick...I made this one up and it looks solid to me but I wanted to get opinions...have you you used this type of connection? What do you guys think???

I've been thinking about using a DB or similar connector for some time. You might want to test it out on a 4 stroke sport plane, something with a lot of vibration, to make sure it's rock solid. If it works, it would speed up assembly at the field and eliminate problems like reversed ailerons or a missed connection a thing of the past. The question is, can the connector handle the power loads and vibrations? Though it might eliminate the speed of assembly, you could always bolt the connectors together to prevent the connections from coming apart, but there may still be vibration issues to evaluate.
I am using an RJ11 (phone jack) connector for some home made navigation lights on my current build. Perhaps you could add nav lights or some other non critical subsystem for testing before trying them for flight controls.

Hi
Guy's that fly sail planes have been doing that for years as well as Giant Scale.
Most of them use the Multiplex connector smaller and lighter then the DB9.

I have one of those on my Savex L39 wing and have had no problems. Rather than bolting together I use small tie wraps to stop them coming apart.
Having said that, my L39 is currently being refurbished and will be refitted with Ashloks.

I have been using them for about 15 years, and they allways work fine. In the attached photos, they are installed in a BVM Maverick and they mate them selves together when you slide the wing on. In this case the mounting holes on the fuselage side are over sized and the bolts and locking nuts are left loose so that the connector can move around to account for wing flexing. I have also used AMP circular connectors with good luck. If one end is going to be free hanging I prefer them since they lock together with a simple twist.

Here are some photos of my Super Bandit with them installed. Absolutely no problems at all.

Emotec makes a nice houseing that uses the multiplex plugs. Desert Aircraft sells them.

Dreamworks Offers both the MPX Housing assemblies and the Ashlok connectors to provide simple secure connections of multiple leads...
