Is there any best size to build a UAT tank for it to be effective ?
Is one as large as a conventional 16 - 24 oz DuBro OK to use ? Do you use a filter in the tank ( what kind ? ), or in-line before the pump ?

Jim, the BVM UAT is the most popular, but there are alternative out there. Basically, it is a 4 oz hopper tank with a bubble resistant filter of some kind. It is always kept full of fuel (to prevent air bubbles getting through the fuel lines) As such, it is not usuable fuel for flying, and is dead weight which is carried throughout the flight. There is not any good reason to make it any larger than this, as it would take up more space (which is at a premium), and more weight (which is bad) and does not provide any additional useable fuel. If you want to make a tank bigger, choose a main tank and put the additional fuel carried to good use....ie burn it!!

If your main tanks clunk setup allows the possibility of having the clunk out of the fuel when inverted AND you have a large turbine, then there is always a possibility of emptying the UAT during extended inverted maneuvers. This may be one reason to go for a bigger tank.
