Default too switch or not

HI all, I am debating whether to use 2 Deans Ultra plugs from my battery supply, to the receiver or go with the 2 Ultra switches. I"ve used JR and Electro Dynamics for years and never had a problem. I think a switch is made to be a switch and the proper device to on/off equipement. A plug is made to energize equipement but not as frequently as a switch.
Lets get some feed back .

Pete,

If you are using two batteries, you may want to look at Smart-Fly's super switch or bat-share, depending on what you're trying to accomplish.

As far as using a deans for a switch, plling those apart becomes a pain in the BEEhind

I too am looking at using just a plug but for my ECU battery supply. At present I have the male & female Deans, a charge socket & a fairly big single throw double pole switch for switching.

Making the plug accesable & using it for a switch will save weight, space & potentially be more reliable.

What I will be doing is converting to Sermos plugs. Of course, every time I fly an electric, they are plugged & unplugged & I've never had a problem in a gazzillion flights. I use them on all my electrics & they are much easier to plug/unplug than the Deans.

Thinking about it my jet has the only Deans plug in my whole RC empire.

Never given it a thought for the radio. For my radio I use 2 switches exactly the same as in your photo. - John.

I prefer Deans connectors to a switch. Its no big deal to pull apart to charge.

I've been using an Astro Flight Zero Loss connector on my ECU batteries.
Makes a good connection, easier to unplug and different from my receiver batteries which I use Deans on.

I use Deans connectors on everything. The trick to make them easier to pull apart is to solder the leads with the male and female connected.

Pete,I have been using Electro Dynamics Ultra switchs since they came out.Never a problem,so why switch.Have tried Deans connectors previous and a pain in the butt to disconnect and eventually they will wear or break a solder joint from pulling apart and reconnecting.Plus a switch is a cleaner installation. I am staying with Electrodynam Ultra Switches for my 2008 Top Gun Jet. My motto is why change from what works, and has proven to be reliable technology!

Horizon hobby has come out with a connector for the ar9100 that in my opinion is superior to Deans and much more user friendly.

Here is a little trick I learned from a friend who flys electrics and uses a lot of Deans Ultra-style connectors. Drill a small hole in each half and use c-clip pliers to separate. Of course it means one more thing to remember to take to the field!!

If using the Smart Fly regulator, the blue connectors won't work unless you make an adaptor

Anyboby know how to install the pins into the blue plastic body after the wires have been soldered in place? Maybe there is a tool to accomplish this task on the EC3 connectors.

I just used a small flat bladed screw driver and pushed the pins in the holder, you will them snap into place when they are seated.
