Default Fire Blanket useage ?

Fire Blankets, sometimes called Pyro Blankets. Has anyone considered their use for smothering fires, rather then hitting them with potentially damaging chemical extingushers ? Seem's like they would be ideal for outboard turbines.

The following is an ad for a typical Fire Blanket. Do a search and check out their potential. >

Made of NOMEX/Kevlar Blend (65/35-Dupont) A tough, soft, fire and heat resistant fabric.
Use to smother and contain small fires or as a protective wrap in the event of an evacuation during a fire.
More effective than wool blankets.
No mess to clean up after using our fire blanket.
Won't melt, drip, burn or support combustion in the air.
Affordable and light weight. Single use.
Perfect for industrial plants, homes, schools, laboratories, welding shops, restaurants, boats, auto repair shops, hotels - anywhere that small fires may occur.

Default RE: Fire Blanket useage ?

Your electronics and probably most of the airframe will be melted by the time the fire consumes all the O2 under the rather large tent that the blanket will make when you throw it over the airframe. Dont use a dry powder extinguisher-Just spend the money and get a 5 pound CO2 or a Halon/Halotron. Scott
