I'm sure you've maiden the F86 long ago by now, how did it go? Can you recall the all up dry weight of the plane?
Thanks

There was a thread about the ill-fated test flight with a P-60[]....but I can't seem to find it!
The model was re-built ant successfully flown with a Titan. Here is the thread about that:

Springbok flyer,
My f-86 finished out at 25lbs dry, far too heavy for a P-60 imo. I also think the supplied tailpipe is really sized for a P70-80-120 so why not install a titan !!! There were some issues with the struts and elev pivot assembly but overall the jet looks good and flys beautifully. I only have 7flights on her because my Titan developed a problem and has been gone for 3 weeks at jetcat. It should be back soon and i have installed the wing tanks and will try some more flights and post the results with the beefed up struts and repaired elev linkage.

Is it possible to explain to me how you/your builder installed the elevator bell cranks. Are there blindnuts/T-nuts installed or does one actually have to find a way of getting the bolt in from the opposite side of the plate on which the bell cranks sits?
As for the hassles with the elevator linkage, what was that?
Finally, the drop tanks - I got a single page drawing, which I assume is for the droptank install. Do they basically sit diagonally across the servo hatch, parallel to the wing root. If so, how accurate are the measurements on the drawing? How did you fix the pylons onto the wing? Did the wing tanks change the cg?
Thanks for your help.

My jet had nylon threads glassed into the wood former so we just threaded the bolt into it.One side came loose after a few flights and we had to modify the linkage. Jeff shows a lock nut on his installation. On the other thread (#20) i posted our fix.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_76..._2/key_/tm.htm
We used long dry wall screws to secure the tank pylons into the factory installed blocks in the wings. Yes they do cross the sero hatch. I have not checked the balance yet as my motor is still out being repaied and my initial flights were with out hem installed.

RE: Skymaster F-86 Build
Hi Vincent,
I have been following this thread with great interest, assembling an identical F-86 these days. I´d like to ask you about your pilot. Where do I get a "scale one" fitting into the cockpit?
My F-86 will weigh in at appr. 22lbs with a SimJet 1700 AES (18,5 lbs thrust) .......
Regards
Pete

Hi Pete,
Mine is the "elite force" 1/6th scale F-86 pilot. It fits perfect in the SM cockpit. My F-86 is powered with a P-80 (19lbs thrust) and its perfect, plenty of power. You should be ok with your Simjet. Also pay close attention the elev pivot horns and their assembly. Jeff details this on the thread.

RE: Skymaster F-86 Build
Hi Vincent,
Thanks for the reply - where can I order an "elite force" pilot?
I´m familiar with this thread and Jeff´s details. So far - I haven´t had any problems with this issue !!!?
When ordering wing tanks - do you get an instruction sheet with "how and where"? Has the wings "built in " threads for the bolts?
Pete

Yes,you get a sheet of paper with the wing mounting position on it. There are no threads or bolts supplied, just a block of wood installed in the wings. We used drywall screws to fasten the pylons to the wings. The Tanks have tabs and are held in place with servo screws. I bought the Elite Force F-86 Pilot from Frank Tiano Enterprises/

RE: Skymaster F-86 Build
I tried Frank Tiano - but he has sold out the F-86 pilots. Though - he has got 12 different pilots to choose from. Same size I believe, 12", so I should be able to find a suitable one!!
Did you have to cut the pilot to make him fit into the cockpit?

Vincent
Are the mounting positions as per the wing tank drawings accurate?
Cheers
