Default Yellow aircraft A4 Skyhawk

I have a Yellow Aircraft A4 Skyward and using a O.S. .91 DF. How come the glow plug is always burning? Just one flight, it burns. The glow plug just burns, while I am flying it in the air and I always have to glide it down. I use the O.S. #8 glow plug. What should I do?

Sounds like you are running too lean , look for a visible smoke trail .

My vote would be that your too lean also, Are you running 5% fuel?

Use a Mcoy MC 9 Glow plug, they can take the heat better.

Use a good 5% fuel with 20% or more oil content , Add 2 oz. of exxon 2380 turbo oil.

Definately run richer with a visable smoke trail.

Make sure your head screws stay tight.

Use a proper tuned pipe.

Have a blast, I flew a few A4's and realy enjoyed them.

Still have one today !

I have a Yellow Aircraft A4 Skyward and...I always have to glide it down.

Hi,

Well, that alone makes you a hell of a pilot! Now that we've covered that, definitely use the McCoy 9 or Hangar 9 MC-9 plug. You should get several flights out of that. I've run 10% fuel with no problem, but you should be getting good smoke and no head varnishing. That last statement always gets rebuttals, but I've got hundreds of DF flights on O.S. 91s without ever darkening the heads. Got any pics of your Scooter?

A good seal on the tuned pipe is important too.

How touchy is your needle valve? I found that when my needle was really critical, I would blow plugs even if there was a smoke trail. If it is too touchy, add a head shim, and you will be fine. Two .91s I had to add shims to, 2 others were fine right out of the box.
