The X-15 or whatever the drone looking plane is...There is a picture of it flying with a big flame coming out the tail.

What is the "flame" caused from?

The X-1 is rocket powered (as the full scale version was).

Gary,
The X-1 is radio controlled? I'm not sure you know or not but I would think it would be since it landed close to where they were piloting. If that is the case is this a "legal" thing to do as per AMA rules?

I didn't think we were supposed to "launch" as in "rocket launch" off of our planes. I am right or crazy for thinking that? Heheheh..

Rocket powered RC aircraft are legal, I think. His normal routine is to release the X-1 at altitude and the X-1 driver does a nice routine gliding the X-1 down. Just before touchdown, the rocket motor is ignited and the X-1 climbs back up to altitude to do it all over gain. I've never seen it in person but saw a video a few years back and it's quite a show.

Launching a "scale" Aim-9 from model would be illegal in the eyes of the AMA.

Awesome pics and thanks for posting Osx. If you're using program mode or apeture priority you might try doing a +1/2 or 2/3 compensation to help brighten them up when you have such a bright (cloudy) sky. The bright sky is throwing off the camera meter and making the photos darker than optimal.

Otherwise spectacular coverage of the event. This one is a real winner...great composition and capturing of the moment!

I was shooting pics so fast at the event it was near impossible to go through all my settings. Most of the pics were taken during the lunch time shows so time was SHORT!
I'm going to go through the best ones and modify them in Apeture.

To say the day was incredible is an understatement. Bob Hodges B-29 NEVER gets old either! If you've never seen it fly in person, you can never understand how spectacular it is!

Does anyone know what the flying wings were (make/model/setup) that flew about 1:30 PM on Friday? I was too far from the Gazebo to hear.

Thanks!

I can't remember the name of those darned thing but OMG were they fast! 180-200mph for a friggin electric wing... DANG!!! There was two times when the pilot nearly bit it 1' off the ground running about 80-90mph. GEEZ!

You're right about the B-29/Bell X-1 routine. I've seen it many times and it does not get old. Did you happen to see his show on Saturday when his starboard wing came loose? Watching that huge wing panel flutter was scary but the pilot was cool as ever and brought the plane in safely. He fixed the problem and went back up later and finished his demo. For the record, the name is Mac Hodges and he's one of the greats in the hobby.

It was a great show this year! The B-29/V1 was awesome in person, and the Fighter Jets at the end of the Demo flying together were awesome. I don't know if many of you got to see Yuri fly on Friday night, but he had an awesome setup for seeing his plane at night. I'm guessing next year a lot of the night fliers will copy his wing tip LED's. I've posted some pics. (none of the night flying unfortunately) Please enjoy. They have not been edited yet, and some are dark, but some are pretty good too. I will re-post them after I edit them. Enjoy.

Definently lots of cool stuff there at Nall. I was up there with the BVM crew. Love the variety of planes up there, foam, 3D, Jets, Warbirds, Civilian Scale, etc.
