Thanks Billy,

OK, Here is the setup. Vin was in front and we were going make a upwind run at about 50' altitude. Vin was throttled back and I was motoring closer for the money shot at about 3/4 power. I was on altitude and just about to pull the throttle back to slide in next to him when I ran straight into his WAKE TURBULENCE! Holy crap! I was closing on Vin's A4 (about 20' behind) and the A-7 was rolling +/- 45° in bank with no input from me! I thought that if I pulled any more power off, I would stuff it. Vin lowered the nose on the A4 and I cobbed the power to the A-7 and pulled some AOA....Whew! I've gotten into wake turbulence before with pylon racers and stuffed them, but never with a turbine model......

Tailwinds,

John

John, did you ever getting a lock on the A-4? Good thing you didn't have to punch out like in the movie!

Joe, What are you RECON?

Charlie was "positioned" for the shots. Look at the right main tire. On takeoff in the crosswind, it did a skip and bounce towards the end of the run. I though that I had pulled the tire halfway off on landing until I saw that pic...............It looks like I need to make a call to Great Northern Models for some new tires!

Tailwinds,

John

Too close....Had to go to the gun. Besides didn't have any heaters onboard.

Tony,

The 8711 servo brand new failed on the right elevon causing the plane to go down at take off. No fire all parts were salvaged just destroyed the air frame. Plane had less than 10 flights on it. There was pics of the wreckage. All ground checks were ok prior to flight. Then at lift off the left went up full the right went up 1/4 inch. At this point I am going to intall 2 servos per wing. This will not happen again over 1 $130.00 servo.

Hey Buck,
The P-60 is doing quite well in the heat. I was not planning on flying the Scooter once the hot weather got here but i have a few jets down for repairs right now so i had to dust off the A-4 and fly it. I am very impressed with that little P-60 it has been purring nicely for 112 flights to date. The Tams A-4 has been a solid trouble free performer for me.

awesome to hear Vin

mine has been trouble free also and flies pretty darn nice with the 60 turned up to 170k. a little tough on the eyes but overall a good flying jet. I'm considering switching engines to the Wren SS and have talked to John about install wt. and engine likes / dislikes etc.

every bit of wing loading counts on the scooter, ya know?

cheers
buck

btw I'll be enjoying some of the 96+ heat over the next couple of days in Yuma. fun fun fun.......not!!

Hey Buck:

Sorry I didn't pack the BC ARF with Wren SS for MAB....you coulda got real comfy with it......I am sure John agrees.....SS is a real jewel in crown....got about 10 hours on it, just over 50 flights, and luv it.....starts easily, smooth at 160K, and very cool temps.......

And remember, power always trumps wing loading.....put my cranked Oly HP NL on my Kingcat and it will fly without wings.....

Those are the ones Joe. 1 8711 could cause that.

Ron,
You should start a thread asking if the other Euro guys are using one or two servos and if they spilt that elevon in two. The seam and hinge line definately had a little binding to it but not enough to stall the 8711 imo.
