RE: 8611 VS 8611A
8611A has a different motor with more torque. It also has a stronger case that wont flex under heavy loads. The gear train is the same on the 8611, 8611A, and 8711.
Some people had a problem with 8611's case breaking internally. They made upgraded cases for this problem.

RE: 8611 VS 8611A
Hi Dave,
As stated above the main differences between the two servos is a motor upgrade and an upper case change. Webbing was added to the upper case bearing mount to increase the strength. You get about 10% more torque with the 8611A over the 8611.
Horizon will not replace the cases for free anymore, that program ended 3-1/2 - 4 years ago. You can send them to Horizon and have new cases put on if you so desire, I do not know what the cost would be.
The main issue was use in the giant 3D aircraft that were getting pounded in the air. The case issue was never a problem in any other application. I had 8611's on my ailerons and elevators in my KingCat for the first 685 flights. No issues at all, just the normal gear slop that comes to life in that many flights. Any I believe you remember the motor that was on my KingCat as well. When I repainted my KingCat I replaced the servos just because it was apart.
Use them for your models, they will serve you well.
