Turbinator first flight report
Well guys. I got 6 flights on my first Turbinator with good results at Fentress this past weekend. The first flights were Friday evening before the rally started at the field. I only needed about 5/8 throttle from the P-120 to takeoff and fly around at a comfortable speed so a P-70 would be perfect. The plane really handles well and slows to a crawl on landing with any head wind if you let it with 40 degree flaps and with 1/8 inch up on the ailerons for crow braking just like my Reaction -54. I have a 100 oz tank out of my old kangaroo from Jet-Tech in the fuel tank area as the only change to the fuel system from the plans. Control throws are per the plans as well as the balance point and I wouldn't change a thing other than maybe reducing the flap throw to 30 degrees at full flap as I got the last landing really slow and bounced it and bent the nose gear stering axle in the Robart gear. BVM T-33 wheels, brakes, and smooth stop round out the Robart gear adn struts and are tough. The radio layout is (2)JR 821 for the ailerons, (2) JR 4131 for the flaps , Futaba 9202 on (2) elevators and the (1) rudder, JR 537 on the steering and retact valve and a JR341 on the smooth stop. JR 4 cell 3000 Mah nicad pack in the nose along with about 1 pound of nose weight that I most likely wouldn't need with the lighter P-70 that the plane was designed for. I put the P-120 in so I could turn it down to pass our fields noise limit and it look like I will have no problem doing so since Bruce Hanson passed with a P-120 at 98K and the throttle setting I was using displayed 87K on the Data terminal. We played pass the transmitter around Sunday afternoon and the guys who flew it loved how it looks in the air and how solid it is. Thanks Nick for another great design!

Good report Ron. I recently finish an R-54 that I'm just beginning to fly and have the Turbinator full kit from Precision Cut Kits sitting in the wings. I have a 1/4 scale Tiger Moth that I put aside to do the R-54 and that needs to get done first. Talk about both ends of the flight spectrum. Jet to WWI Bi Plane.

I was going to load up some pics yesterday but had a mess to deal with when I got home with some work that was done at my house while I was away as a surprise from my wife.

I wish it was just a kitchen. She had a hack install our brand new cantilevered awnings on the house and they are already pulling out of the wall last night since they didn't know what they were doing. DON"T GET MARRIED!
