Default JL Paint Touchup

Hi Guys,

My JL F18 in Blue Angel's paint overall looks pretty good with the exception of the mold lines. However, when I had it sitting on it's back and put the gear doors in place, the nose gear doors are painted all yellow. Only part of the doors should be yellow to create the yellow arrow that runs along the bottom.
My question is can I go to my LHS and buy a jar of Blue Angel paint to fix this? I want to match the paint job as well as I can.
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Wayne

Wayne, I found a nearly identical spray paint at Home Depot to match the color of my JL T-45 Red Bull Hawk. Go to HD and take a look at their paints. They have many different shades of blue. Buy one and lightly spray it on a surface and see if it matches up. If it doesn't clean up the residue on the nozzle and take it back and try another one.

Oh my, thats way off!!! I would buy varying shades of blue through Model Master 1 ounce jars and just custom mix a color. You wont find a rattle can match, I guarantee you!!! They mix their paints in China for a certain number of batches and then re mix for the next batch, never the same color twice.

For this particular job, I'd buy the spray can and mask the areas that need the paint. Then go back and spay a little in a cup and use a brush to touch up areas that need it. For a little over $3, I'd still have the can for future spray and touch-ups in case of a bad landing. And if the color isn't a perfect match, well then you're looking at this particular jet to closely (it's the bottom side)! [X(]

Thanks Airforce7 for your suggestion. I like the idea of the spray can so I don't have any brush strokes showing. And you are right on when you mentioned it is the bottom of the aircraft. Sometimes I make jobs more difficult than they really are.

Ian, I went down to Sheldon’s Hobby and bought a couple bottles of Model Master Paint. One of the jars is “Blue Angel” and the other one looks like it might match. I will try mixing them to get an exact, or close to it, match.
Thanks again for your time gentlemen, I appreciate it.

Thanks Ian, maybe FB will fit check the doors to see where the yellow arrow is suppose to go on the doors. I can just picture the person at JL laying all the doors down for painting without thinking the yellow does not cover the entire door. They just took the easy way out and painted all the nose gear doors yellow.
I know this is a minor problem but it still bothers me. Fortunately, like most problems, it is fixable.
