What happened to the JPO thread? It was a well rounded discussion that was handled well by everyone! I thought the Moderator was doing a great job in controlling it!

Edit was misspelled word

I read the thread and found it to be nothing but a get FT thread and It held no value for me.

This is just my 2 cents on the issue.

Maybe the Ghosts famous phrase " closing this one" came back to haunt him.

Pattratt,

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. It was closed and deleted because it had run it's course and went off topic.

if all threads that 'run their course' and 'go off topic' were deleted, RCU wil be 1/10 the size

LOL ! I guess that in an ideal world we'd know that a topic had run it's course simply by the fact that there were no more posts on it

Some topics are almost always inflamatory though (and threads involving BV, FT, and some other notable people always seem to meet that criteria more frequently than the average), such that mod's may need to balance the "value" of the thread continuing vs it being halted. The members don't like to be censored and told that they can't discuss topic X, yet they may also get upset if anything they see as 'bashing' continues too long - and finding the balance that keeps the members happy (and therefore RCU busy & profitable enough to stay open) can be tough at times.

Jim is pretty new to the mod job and almost immediately finds himself with a potentially nuclear topic being discussed, so I think it would be helpful if we'd give him some leeway and benefit of the doubt while he gets used to those new spurs he's strapped on.

Besides, it's a historial fact on RCU that whenever the membership decides that it wasn't finished with a topic whose thread got closed, they have a habit of opening up new threads to continue the discussion in a way that hopefully doesn't make the mod's feel the ned to close it. In that we we tend to reach some kind of implicit compromise between the mod's and the memers on topics that are 'hot buttons'.

Last I 'member there was a very insightful post that pointed out a couple of well placed "edits" regarding the dropping of immitation miniature munitions on a phantom van then a couple of cute lighthearted posts regarding golf ( For which I had a great pithy response which I didnt get a chance to use durnit) then POOF!! Too bad as that is the thread that had the response from the author, as the mods wish. Scotty

I can see the need for locking a thread, but deleting it totally? Did it go that far off base????

It ain't so. That was one of the best comic relief lines I have seen in a long time. Still laugh when I think about it.

No thanks... I've already been a moderator in this forum, so have paid my dues in that respect.

Anyway, the # posts has no bearing on anything other than to show that I like to talk !

So apparently all of the threads that actually contained information and discussion on an issue within the jet community have been nuked?!? I guess that there is no middle ground - if you want to discuss something slightly political, you have to go to those "other" forums? Until recently, we seemed to be working towards a more "balanced" approach here...
