RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Hi,
This may seem elementary but the fuel system in a Turbine is very critical. Alan had Sullivan Products manufacture a 125 oz tank especially designed for the Sprint and other Boomerang’s.
The fit in my Sprint couldn’t be a more perfect. The problem I was confused about was there was no bubble at the top of the tank. Being unsure of where the copper vent tube needed to be placed, I contacted Sullivan. I was told Alan designed this tank without a bubble which is fine. It was explained to me that the vent tube needs to go to the highest point of the tank having it just touch. Then, carefully file the tube at a 45 degree angle away from the top of the tank which will give just enough room for air to pass. Make sure there are no burrs on the tube. I’m sure many people already knew this but I just thought this may help those who didn’t.

that bubble you speak of really is not necessary. if you need to worry about that ,you need a bigger tank. I've used plastic bottles from Wal-Mart. the ones that drinks come in . I use a piece of fuel tubing like tygon to get to the top of the tank rather than brass that way you won't run the risk of wearing through the tank itself.

Hi,
There should only be 2 copper tubes, one for the fuel and the other for the vent. Are you saying that I could actually bend the vent copper tube up leaving it about 3/4" short of the top of the tank then add s piece of tygon to complete it? If that's the case, I never thought to do that. Smart,
Thanks,

Exactly, the short plastic tube fits over the thinner brass tube which is bent in a curve pointing upwards. The curve gentle enough to allow the assembled cap and bung to be pushed into the mouth of the tank and tightened up using the centre bolt. The larger tube is for the feed to the UAT or bubble trap.
It's easy to trim the plastic to reach the top of the tank, cut in a birdmouth or similar to prevent it closing the hole against the top surface.
The beauty of the large tank is that it gives you the option of how much fuel you want to carry for a long or shorter flight. For a safe nine minute flight, I fill to about 2/3 full. That's using a Supersport, which will give up to 18 minutes on a full tank and land with power on!!

Hi Alan,
I really that large tank. I have not purchased the Turbine yet but I will be getting the Jet Cat P 70. I feel that's a great fit for the sprint. Can't wait for the Spring to get here. To much snow on the ground already. O well, plenty of time to build.
Thanks,

Well It seems I am Slowly getting back on track with my sprint. I ordered my pro lynx retracts today.
Now I have to dust off the plane so I can work on it when they come in.
After seeing everyone elses pictures and videos I figured I better get a move on.

Now that i have swapped out my Super Bee(14lbs) for a Falcon (22lbs).....
all I can say is.....
HOLY MOTHER OF AWESOME!
More fun, faster and still lands nice and slow! I love watching the faces of the guys at the field when they see the overall performance if the boomer with the Falcon.
no big change in my CG. Falcon about a 1lbs heaver, but the battery is a 6cell nicad vice the super bees 2 cell li-ion battery right up front in the battery area. I also swapped out my 50oz tank for the jet tech 88oz. give about a 6 min flight with about 1/4 to 1/8 left on landing.
Take off is cool. full throttle with brakes, release, about 25-30ft roll, then pull straight up for 200 ft or more. it gets small fast....lol
Next mod is the Jet tech elan tank that is split 98oz/35oz smoke. Oh and maybe the trailing link gear.
Super Bee= Super Fun!
Falcon= Super Duper Fun!
You will never be disappointed with a boomer!

Finally replaced the pilot from the frist pic........It does nothing for the flight performance, but at least he looks like a jet jocky.
Pilot is from Dreamworks.

Did you buy the entire cockpit from Dreamworks too? I didn't see any pilots or cockpits from going to Dreamworksrc.com.

#1 1/7 sized pilot cut down alittle
#2 styrofoam painted black
#3 Picture of a cockpit glued to styrofoam
#4 styrofoam shaped like a seat an painted black
and there have it.I am sure there are other ways of doing it but this worked fine for me.

No I only bought the Pilot from Dreamworks, I used the instrument panel and side panels and ejection seat from my BVM T-33.
I moved the pannel closer to the pilot and covered it over with flat black painted paper......I like using the paper because it breaths and doesn't bubble up in the sun.
Due to a crash, earlier this year, the T-Bird's airframe was a total loss.
a couple of better pics of the cockpit and a pic of my T-Bird.

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Hello
just finishing off my Sprint now with the turbine installation - can someone help me with the following please
- how have you installed the overflow from the tank? I thought of installing a brass nipple in the bottom of the fuz to get the overflow outside but I am concerned that if I have a gear up landing it would rip out a big hole!
- I am installing a Jetcat P80 and the turbine mount that came with the turbine is off centre (turbine sits a bit lower) - can I just mount the turbine the way it is or would this affect flight performance (so use some plywood doublers on the engine mount to get the turbine back to centre?)
Any help would be much appreciated!

I run the overflow right along inside the fuselage to emerge low through the rear former. That way if you carry or store the plane nose up or down it won't spill unless it's brim full.

Hi,
After reading your comments on the rudder servo box, I had not reached that point yet. Tonight I cut the covering and exposed the box. Good job. Mine had the same issue and breakdown as yours. I corrected the problem by 1st adding a thin 1/1/2" square plywood floor for added support then a dowel rod post on top of it with the location like yours is. I used 30 min epoxy and it's drying as we speak. The right rudder was the bad with the left a little better but supported both. Thank you for a great tip!!!!!
