RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
HI Guys Ive come to idiot question point again. Can anyone take a picture of the stabaliser on the sprint specifically the bolt arangement.
On mine the cap head screws seem to be cutting into the balsa as I tighten them down, I assume I am supposed to cut away all the balsa to allow the cap head to drive all the way down to the ply plate that is fitted inside the stab.
Regards
Mick

what do you meen by slowing the spool time down?

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Normaly its due to incomplete combustion of the fuel air mix in the combustion chamber and the unburnt fuel is being ignited after leaving the chamber, this can be caused by a blocked injector or inefficient injectors, too much fuel being supplied to the turbine, gas still being supplied to the turbine, or just insufficiant design development. Have a look on the EvoJet turbine support thread and watch the vidio's it seems this is normal for the EvoJet to pop and bang when starting.

On the old RAM 750F, it would pop & fart at idle when the fuel needles were not pointed properly into the vaporization tubes. Every now and then, some fuel would accumulate and enter the primary combustion zone all at once as a drop and you would get the pop as a result.

i noticed the popping once in a blue moon on my P80....otherwise its ok. Yeah it never affect the running and flying on the jet. Well then, I will just leave it alone. Its 77 hrs now,so about time to send it back for servicing.

I have a new P80-SE and I noticed it pops a little only when I advance the throttle from idle to full throttle - once the turbine stops accelerating to the set point it is very smooth though - I assume this is normal??

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
Hi to all,
I really tried to get the info out of this thread, but I still have some questions concerning the right trimming set up for the Sprint.
Did anybody set it up as described in the manual? Especially the 10% down mix of the elevator to half flap and then says the manual it should return to zero from half flap to full flap again, which means in other words no flap -> no down mix, half flap -> 10% down mix, full flap -> no down mix.
Most posts I read talk about down mix even with full flap...and now i'm a bit confused!
The crow braking should start with half flap to full flap. I think that's clear.
Any comments to the down mixing would very appreciated.
Thanx
Stephan

My half flap mix is 5% down elevator. The problem is that your half flap setting may be a little more or less than mine. I would start with 5% and adjust from there. I don't have any mix for full flap yet but I do have to hold quite a bit of down elevator with full flaps. I only have used half flap for landing because it's always windy here in Oklahoma and full flap has not been necessary yet. I haven't even set up any crow mix either because the runways I use are paved and 400 feet long.

Looks like the first pic is the new install to me. Heres a video of my sprint flying last weekend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGX9nOD12dM

Good Job Chris
I have almost finished my P80se powered boomer and I cant wait to join the jet set!!!
I was looking at your approach and wondered what the boomer lands like without the flaps, most seem to use them but I cant say I a big fan of flaps and crow braking but if its required I will have to learn a new style of flying I suppose
What kind of run time are you personally getting on the P80 with a full tank?

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
I landed it without flaps for the first 30 flights and then one day the wind was almost calm so I started using the flaps and have been using them every time since. The flaps really smooths the approach a lot. Without flaps it still lands pretty quick. i fly mine for 9 minutes and usually have about a quarter tank left when I land. I have a 125 oz. tank on board. I don't have crow set up on it yet.

You have to remember the difference between the relative flying sites in the UK compared to the US, unless you are lucky enough to have a 700ft runway to land on all the time, you will need flaps and reflexed ailerons to get down onto the normal type of grass field we fly from, jets fly fast and you need to slow them down, the flaps at 90deg deflection act as airbrakes and slow the beasty down to a sensible speed for landing on a short patch, the reflexed ailerons put wash out on the tips and help prevent tip stalling at slow speed and spoil some of the lift over the wing so decrease the glide angle.
Set them up on your Boomer you will not regret it, lets face it if Ali thinks they are needed and uses them on his who are we to argue.

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
What amount of crow (aileron reflex) have you guys tried on the sprint, I know on the elan and XL quite a bit is used (15-20mm), I have only tried about 5mm on my Intro

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
I have about 12mm up on mine, comming in slow with about 5mm of down elevator, both linked to the throttle so if I open up they go away and flap goes to 45deg, reflex does not come in until flap has gone past 45deg.

RE: Boomerang Sprint Build Thread!
I have mine setup the same way mike but not as much as you, keep forgetting to experiment when I am out flying !
Must remember to try out more reflex next weekend.
