they are just following the rules
one pays more attention to them then the others.
this is good for paying advertisers , instead of people getting free advertisement , by other users..

If there is a body of rules, most people can work and live within them. When they are inconsistently, or selectively. applied - that drives people crazy. I know I have had posts removed (for not being jet related - it was!) when another thread on the same topic remained standing. It does leave a bitter taste in your mouth..... So what do you do? You either brush it off (again and again) and keep coming here, or you take your ball and glove and find another park to play in.....
I know from experience that it is a real tough job being a moderator, and toughter yet being an admin. However, it comes with some responsibility as a group to act consistently....and that is what we are not seeing in all cases......
However, on the positive side, we are spared the intensive spam -cheap cel phones, male enhancement treatments, stock promotions, etc, etc, etc. Anybody remember "punch the Monkey" on RCO ???? I will give the mods and admins credit for keeping that crap off the forums...

Here is my personal opinion as a past moderator. Of all the forums I have moderated over the years, I have never moderated a forum where people stretch, break, and bend the rules, and then b*tch about it more than the jets forum. The rules on RCU are stated very clearly, but regardless of that, people will fail to read, misinterpret, or just plain outright ignore stated rules. So in the jets forum, there have been concessions made. IE: The rule regarding full scale discussion. It was NOT to permit full scale discussion but to allow pictures of full scale jets for the purpose of documentation, color schemes etc. Not to start talking about the new whatever etc etc or who crashed where blah blah blah. However, that rule was pushed, and broken many times. So threads get put up, some get removed, some get moved, and some get missed, but instead of emailing a mod about a missed thread, or reporting it, etc, there are some members who seem to feel it is more valuable to create threads like this one to complain about the moderators. The justification is always "so and so's thread is still up". That's like trying to weasel out of a speeding ticket because somebody passed you just before you got pulled over and they didn't get caught. Like the police don't catch every speeder, the moderators don't catch every post. Some days I go through the forum and can find 10 + posts that don't belong here, but I think that in all honesty, the moderators have been very lax lately which is a benefit to you guys.

Moderating sucks, it's an unpaid position, one which I did for a couple years, and one that is nearly impossible to find volunteers to fill. If you don't like the rules that's one thing, but complaing about people that volunteer to do their job to the best of their ability when time allows on a free forum is ridiculous.

There are many ways that the guys who are unhappy with certain rules could constructively approach trying to get them changed, but it's always easier just to cry about it hoping somebody takes pity.

Case in point would be the whole issue about wanted ad's in the forum.....

Rules are bent, posts are deleted, and people get PO'd about that. Then posts like these get made:

Wanted ads on RCU are totally useless. The only time I've ever had any responses at all to a "wanted" ad on RCU is when I posted a link to it in the jet forum and I got a few suggestions before the moderator removed it...
DITTO, I AGREE! YOU HAVE TO ADMIT, THAT OUR NEEDS ARE FAR SUPERIOR FOR SPECIALIZED PARTS THAN ANY OTHER FACET OF THE HOBBIES, BECAUSE OUR NUMBERS ARE SOOOO SMALL.
HI all, isn"t it strange how some people have ask for some thing in the Jet Forum and their post stays their for weeks and when I do that, it gets pulled with in hours.
Get rid of this stupid rule.
Rcpete
Stupid rule, useless, etc. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar guys, why would somebody want to change something when it's criticism that they constantly get.

I am sure that if wanted ad's were allowed in the forum, within 2 weeks the wanted ad's would take up 50% of the forum.....
As such, if it's such a concern for people, why would somebody who is not happy with it take the time to create a constructive approach to solving this problem with a diplomaticly written suggestion to admin.

Something along the lines of:

"We as a jet community run into problems locating parts at times. Particularly when some of the manufactures are small cottage industry business's which unfortunately do not always stand the test of time. This makes it difficult if not impossible to find parts for models we may already have. There are subforums for manufactures within the jets forum, PST jets, Jetcat, AMT etc... These forums are here for the express purpose of the members being able to directly ask the manufacture and their representatives questions regarding these engines without it getting lost in the main forum within a day.
Could it not be made that a second sub forum be created to help us with items we are looking for? Something along the lines of a wanted sub forum with categories such as "engines and parts, airframes and parts, instruction manuals" etc? This would allow a member to place a wanted ad in a more notable location without cluttering up the main forum. It may not get the same response as being in the main forum but would be visible to all whenever they visit the main forum rather than having to search through the classified ad's to find a wanted ad. Thank you"

You might get somewhere if a different approach to these issues was used instead of the typical "get rid of this stupid rule".......

Keep in mind also though that this opens up a potential headache for admin and moderators all across the RCU board. Sooner or later somebody will say "it's allowed in the jets forum, why is it not allowed in our forum" and before long it's an issue in all the forums.

So in answer to this poll, no, I don't think RCU is overmoderated, I think it's a lousy job that needs to be done and if the members would take a little more time and effort to try to help the situation instead of complain about it, the moderators job could be made easier, and could be more consistent.

Of course, it's just my 2 cents which with todays price of gas isn't worth anything, but there it is anyway....

Yup. Huppens every few months when Mr. New Moderator comes onto the scene, all gung ho and ready to enforce the RCU rules. Delete any post that "SEEMS" objectionable in their opinion. Doesn't matter if the post is to the point and factual!

Well, could it not be added? I think it is a great idea! But until then I really don't see the harm in people asking for a little help from thier friends here on RCU when they need a specialized part. I don't think the main forum shoud become a classified section with jets for sale, etc. But if someone needs a part so they can fly their jet, I don't see the harm in letting them ask. It is a small community of jet flyers, the parts are highly specialized, and for the most part we are always willing to help a fellow jet flyer if we can. My $.02 anyway.

I own a 1992 Lexus SC400, and from time to time, I need some parts that you can't really get. Same as for some guys with jets. The old way RCU did it was perfect, and here's an example of how Club Lexus does it:

http://www.clublexus.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=36

Interestingly, they are using the same software RCU used to use.

Maybe there needs to be a Jet WTB forum on RCU. But as I said earlier, I doubt anything will change as long as we keep using these forums and continue being pasified. Take the info somewhere else, start all your posts somewhere else. Just like what's going on with JPO, you start sending letters in resigning from JPO, and from what I understand, JPO was listening, and did receive the resignations.

Another example of inconsistancy:

Hmmm, from another Forum.
