Hi all,
I have just bought a second hand Skymaster F18. My question is this, how much slack can there be in the up/down (vertical) and fore/aft on the elevators. I am not talking of the rotational movement as you get when you apply up or down elevator, more the movement in the bearings, if you know what I mean.
My mate has a couple of hawks that have some slack like mine, but I just want your opinions.
Thanks,

Hello..
You shouldn’t have alot of slop. A little slop is normal. What you can do is loosen the control horn from the elevator and push the elevator stab firmly against the side of the fuselage. While holding the stab firmly push the control horn onto the stab control rod against the Bushing/Bearing. Then tighten down. This will help reduce some of the slop. If this doesn’t help you might need to replace the Bearings/Bushings.
I hope this helps.
Good luck

Thanks Jeff,
Any chance you could measure an elevator (not neccessarily an F18) and post an exceptable slop value?
Thanks for you help,
