Buck,
The performance is night and day. It is a lot of bird to push around. the titan verses a P-200 is the difference of the entire runway with border line stall lift off to half the runway lift off with authority. The power and performance is just perfect for that big SLED. We are looking forward to see you for the gong show as well.
Ron

Nice Phantom phlying guys! Looks and sounds like the real ones at MCAS Cherry Point, NC in the late sixtys. Except of course they were a different color and had Marines on the side.

Joe,
There was no one more dissapointed than Wayne not seeing that chute deploy. He has worked on it quite a bit with Dan Gill. We were talking about just putting the chute on a switch and deploying it manually instead of the rpm sensor in the wheels.

Wouldn't the RPM sensor be an issue on the Skymaster wheels since the magnet needs to be set in the tire and those tires are air filled, i.e. hollow!!

Damn Buck, have not heard that name in a while....damn I feel old. My dad had me watch that movie when it was called "ACE", it didn't do very well so then they re released it with the name Great Santini....and it turned into a classic. Go figure. Do all you military types carry a can of clam chowder and a spoon with you at all times?

Just an observation, tell me if I'm crazy. From the video I would not expect the chute to deploy; the landing was pretty fast and since he did not touch down until mid-runway, you can see the breaks being applied ASAFP. Seeing that the speed sensor is in the back side of the wheel somewhere I cant imagine that the disk breaks on the F-4 are not messing with the speed sensor. Remember, those are disk breaks (metal to metal/break material) I'm guessing the electronic sensor might not like it?
Also, what rpm difference does the speed sensor need to trigger the chute? Can it work properly with the breaks locked up? Even if the wheel is not locked, the rpm is possibly too low, for it to maybe think they are not moving enough to trigger the chute. I have no experience with this system, I'm just asking questions.
Hey Ron, next time pay Shui a little more so he will use the whole runway

The chute was not deploying because the RPM sensor was damaged. The gap between it and the magnets had to be very close to get it to deploy the chute; possibly an affect of having to mount them on the wheel instead of the tire. After talking with Dan he sent me some more magnets to increase the strength and duration of the magnetic pulse on the sensor, with these installed I should be able to increase the gap and still get good deployment of the chute. I'll get some pictures of the engine bay when Ron drops the bird off for the sensor repair.
