Default Trim Wheels

Hello to all,
How does one go about removing a tire from a rim on a set of Trim Wheels? I have some dirt under one side and the tire will not seat on the rim now. Thanks in advance.
Ron

Default Removing Trim Tires

Hi Ron

To remove the tire from the rim, you need to support the rim off of a hard surface by about 2". The best way to do this is it get a dowel of other pice of wood that fits just inside the the outer lip of the rim. Then get a piece of plywood, 1/2" - 3/4" thick and cut a hole that is about 3/8" - 1/2" wider in diameter than the out side diameter of the rim. Centre the board over the tire and push. If you can get access to an arbor press and a piece of pipe of the correct diameter, this works much better.

To put the tire back on, you will need the same support, piece of plywood or arbor press and a tapered piece of dowel to fit on top of the rim. Put the tire on top of the tapered piece of dowel and push. The tire will not fully seat into the trim right a way. You will have to use a small screw driver to tuck the remaining rubber under the rim.

Hint: For those of you who have old Ram engines. The centre cones work well as the tapered installation tool. Thanks for that idea Carlos.

Sincerely,
Ed
