Default RE: Boomerang Nano!!!

I think the K-60 is only available as a G model, but no problem starting at all. Fired right up from the first time. Couldn't have been simpler. Issue has been when I accelerate the motor can't keep up because of my low air density and the motor flames out at about half throttle. The solution was pretty simple, add delay to the acceleration. Default was 7 and I've had to increase it to 25. SO all "appears" good with the tank I ran through it last night with these settings and I'm heading to the field in a few minutes.

Good to hear. I asked about the starts because Barry sent me a list of settings to adjust in the ECU, since the K60 is a new engine type for Kingtech. Apparently they had been getting some flames on start-up, and they've been fine-tuning the start settings to find the best setup. I was curious about your experience.

Hopefully being at sea level my acceleration stability will be ok. But thanks for the heads-up. If I have trouble, now I know where to make an adjustment.

Ok, I got two flights in today, both had flame outs about a minute and half in so dead stick landings for both. Plane flys amazing.....for the brief periods I flew it. It's not super fast but still has good speed. I'm pleased, a little disappointed by the flame outs but I'm sure Kingtech will get those issues worked out.

Here's the video:

Just so you all know the field is in a river bend so both ends of the runway have water and on the first flame out I was more concerned about coming up short and in the water than anything else. After knowing how much this bird will glide the second was a better landing, but I somehow turned off my camera so no video.

i checked the length of my gear. The nose is 5.125 from the bottom of mounting flange to the axle centerline which i can space down. The mains are 4.375.

Bob,
It looks like you'll "space down" the nose gear and lenghten the mains a bit. I strived to have a level or slightly positive stance on my Nano and it has worked out well on tarmac runways. Yesterday, I performed some taxi tests on a local grass field and it was too rough for any takeoffs or landings. Note that this field was a former cow pasture, complete with manure piles, and the "grass" is more like velcro. The 2" nose and 2 1/4" mains just couldn't hack it. I'll restrict my Nano to paved or tarmac runways.

Now that I have done about 15 flights or so I felt confident enough to try the Nano on our more restricted field.

No probem at all. That is what I love about this plane. You can fly it from grass at small fields as it takes off after a short run. Brilliant.

Happy flying.

I got another flight on my Boomerang Nano this morning with the new K-60g installed. It was mostly re-trimming (probably from a slightly different turbine position) and different throttle positions....mostly running the engine through it's paces...nothing fancy. Anyway the plane flies great, the engine has tons of power and I'm very happy.

Here's some video.

I got two more flights on my Boomerang Nano today. It's a great flying airplane. I need to turn up the rates on the rudder, not enough rudder on high rates for knife edge. I need to check my throws, maybe they are off for some odd reason. First flight was mixed throttle for a little over 5 minutes and came down with a little over a 1/3 tank left. Second flight a guy at the field had a radar gun so it was a lot of full throttle passes. (146mph flat and level) and after a little over 5 minute flight about a 1/4 of a tank left. I'm thinking that's pretty good fuel economy for a K-60 with a 59oz tank. I also found out how well the plane lands without the flap deployed. I accidentally put up the flap when flipping the elevator rate switch and as I'm landing I was thinking, "boy that's faster than it should be, the flap should have slowed it down" but it wasn't THAT fast. Nice smooth landing and brakes work as expected. Second flight the landing was at a crawl, no need for brakes. This is a great jet!

Well, we have an Boomerang Sprint ( p-80 se ) with 250 flights, and the Nano ( shows on the pic above ), and we had an Elan ( 1200 flights with p70 and after 500 flights changed fo p120 ) and an old baby boomerang; all jets are amazing jets!!! The nano few months ago lost the clevis of right side aileron, but, we comes to landing without any problems!!!!

Hello Helihover. Yes the first few flights I did on my Nano was with the Wren 44 Green. 8# thrust on grass. Was off and flying at about 250 feet. After in the air I was very surprised at How well it flew.

Need some help. I bent the nose wheel pin on the pro link gear. I ordered a replacement but there too short to lock in. Anyone know the product number to get the right part. I spoke to the girl at dreamworks and that's the pin as a replacement but it don't work. Here's the link for the part in question http://www.dreamworksrc.com/catalog/...e-Steering-Pin

thanks

I make my own from a 1/4" Allen bolt. I bought them at the local do it best hardware. I grind the head to the shape of the pin you get from Dreamworks and grind the needed flat spots for the tiller and the strut. The neat thing about using a hardened bolt, instead of bending and cracking the pin, it breaks off cleanly at the threads and is easy to remove. I always had to grind the heads off the DreamWorks/Robart pins as they would bend into a hook and would not slide out of the brass bushing for the steering.

Also the last time I ordered a bunch of spares they also sent me a couple that were too short..............

Hope this helps, it is also quicker than waiting on the US Mail..................LOL

Sorry make that a 5/32"bolt.....................not 1/4"..................

Maybe this one, the wheels are intairco, if you using prolink retract set. :

He is talking about the pin that the strut is attached to that goes through the steering tiller. Same thing as a Robart 5/32" axle for the wheel. No screws in the end or "C" clips involved.

Oops! your idea is great, an allen screw without head works well.

I would have thought a high tensile allen bolt would rip out the nose gear before it would break, think I will stick to a mild steel pin.

I did speak with dreamworks today. The part number was correct that I posted, the wrong part was sent. I think Linda told me it was intairco axles and not the robart wich are longer after seeing the picture I sent.all is good. very good ideas you threw out there.

How did you get Barry to send you that list? I been trying to get a Jet-A start-p Param list from him and Dirk for weeks!!! Ha. Ha.

I have to admit when I mullered my Elan retracts, Dreamworks sent the wrong trunions 50%/50% fault, this was sorted out by them in a very short time and the new ones arrived in double quick time to the UK.

If only Intairco wheels where not so heavy.
