Default FOD screen alternatives...

I watched a SM F-16 build by a gentleman from poland. He placed a screen on the turbine intake duct rather than the turbine itself. It seemed much easier than building one to fit the turbine.

Are there any disadvantages to this type of system?

I have been running a large mesh screen over the whole former in front of my engine in my Big Boomer XL II. Does the job for me, especially if I am flying on a grass field.

Yes, it doesn't protect the turbine from FOD inside the fuselage, servo screws, wire ties that brake, etc...... a prefab FOD screen is cheap and worth its weight in gold when it does its intended job.

FWIW Guys,

All Wrens have a very nice fully integrated FOD screen on the front cover . Looks much nicer than a Walmart special ! I'll put in my vote for a screen at the motor as opposed to at the intake . Take this from someone who once had his RPM sensor wire sucked into the engine . Not pretty !

On my plane this wouldn't work very well. The F-16 would suck crap in through the landing gear bay. I'll be doing some kind of Walmart or Dollar Store screen

I would think placing a FOD screen across the entire intake opening would be very draggy when the plane is up to speed. Also, it doesn't protect the turbine from FOD that comes loose in the airplane if not fully bypassed.
