RE: Fei Bao F/A-18F Repaint and Build
Looking good Ian,
The strake lights look great. Nice idea with the boxes. Some day when I have some extra time, I guess I'll have to make some molded boxes like those for the F-18 lighting system. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Dan, you know what I was thinking was using a small Mag Light reflector dome and placing the bulb of your lights right in the center of that and then gluing that in as well. Something like that could be easy to mold up possibly but that's the one thing I get a lot of questions on is how to install the system.

What do you have left to do on the twin? Final install touches or some significant work?

LOL... yea. he had a bandit and a euro i wanted more than the F-18.. and he had a new euro kit laying around... Sooo i got 2 euros (one to build for him) and a bandit, and he got a euro built and a F-18. haha
Doesn't hurt my feelings.. YA F-18 #2 is going to be more scale and have alot of things done differently.

Plus the Yellow kits are so cheap, you could buy the kit first and then while saving money with the gear start building the airframe. Cool deal Thomas!!

Dang skippy! and since i plan on doing all the stuff that Dan from details4scale has for the big bug, the "reese" modifications, P-200, the new "high volume" bypass system from jet-tech, PB royal, leading edge flaps, refueling probe.. etc etc etc i'll definately need alot of time to build the thing... Might have the kit as early as the middle of may, since i'm "scheduled" for a job all of may.

RE: Fei Bao F/A-18F Repaint and Build
Back to work on the 18 after some needed time off. I decided tonight to get some of the formation lights. I wanted them to be more scale so I used some .010 sheet styrene to make the framework of the lights. I measured off of my 1/48th scale model as reference and placed them accordingly. These lights will be functional but more on that later. I started off by filling the existing panel lines on the model for the lights and then sanded them smooth. After I got the surface filled and smoothed I placed the frames in their proper locations and then glued them down with some thin CA.
I did a test piece and it turned out much better than I thought it would, they should end up looking pretty darn good.

Well I have been fiddling more with details and such. Tonight I have been spraying primer and filling holes. Here is what I did for some stab details. I decided to make one of panels stand out a little more with some metal panel so out came the puter and the vinyl cutter!! Here are some pics:
