Wow, Kevin, thanks for posting.
I've been thinking about one of these for months but no one seems to know much about them, hence me starting the thread.
Already stuck my neck out and ordered the Skyblazer version as I love the Sabre. My first jet, Sprint, is already in Korean colours as is my YT P51 so I thought I'd have some other colour for a change. As I only have a P-80 I thought the F86 would suit it so I am damn glad to hear that it flies well!
She's a heavy girl, FB quote weight as 20-22 lbs!
Gary.
p.s. Do you think she would get off grass?

RE: Fei Bao F86 Sabre
All,
Kevin is correct with the CG. I am currently assembling a Feibao F-86 and working on the pictures and text for a manual. I will also be starting a build thread.
As far as weight goes, mine weighed in at 17 pounds before turbine and radio gear are installed.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me.

I think it would be ok on grass, as long as it is smooth. as for the weight, most of it is in the wings. each wing panel with servos and landing gear is 4.4 pounds. I think there is way to much paint on on them as there are no panel line on one wing and faint on the other. total weight without fuel is right at 26 pounds, this includes all gear doors and wing tanks.

Gary at 31lbs do you think your grass strip will be long enough for the Sabre? she's going to need a good run up to get in the air.

I use around 450 feet of our 640 foot runway which is smooth black asphalt. it has a fairly long takeoff roll. but lands nice and slow with flaps and speed brakes. hinging the speed brakes was a chore with no templates or instructions.

It will fly great with a P-80, Our one was over powered with a 27lb thrust turbine, I would not hesitate in recommending anything from 8kg thrust for this F-86. A 20lb thrust turbine would be a perfect combo IMHO... A Great flyer!!!

Just got first Photo’s of my Fei Bao Sabre with custom paint. Should be delivered from the factory in the next week or so. Thinking about a Jetcat P120SX.

Her is mine. Power is a Simjet 2300 putting out about 25 pounds of thrust. Landing gear is robart 630 with 1/2 inch struts with Trim Wheels and brakes. Servos are JR 821 digitals on the wing Hi tech 645 on the elevator halfs And a hitech digital on the rudder. The C-G is one inch in front of the mains from the center of the strut with the header tank full. I even had enough room to put a 24 ounce smoke tank on board and an extra 10 ounce tank for the fuel plus the 4 ounce header. All up fuel is 118 ounces. I have a 71/2 minute timer and I am flying most of the flight around half throttle. When I land I haven't even got into the 10 ounce tank. Full throtlle has vertical out of site. It just keeps going up. Only bad habbit mine has is it wants to snap to the right if I pull too hard on the elevator. I had the right one moving up quicker than the left one and took most of that out. Still needs to be fine tuned a little more.
Have fun with yours.

Jetpilot, have you flown your 86 with and without the wing tanks? I have just a few flights with out them and would like to know if there is much difference in how it flies with them installed.
thanks Kevin

Hi Kevin,
My buddy Doug McKay, have flown this F86 Saber with wing tanks and only on a P70. and take off from dirt field. Flying fine and scale. More power would be nice for vertical climb but less scale.
See the photo. it's next to my small 1/9 FJ-2 From JJH with Wren 44 electric start. I am the one taking this photo. The spiky hair dude is my spotter. The F86 is nice with intake right in the front, so engine won't suck in the dirts. (with bypass installed).

I would seriously recommend considering the lower thrust turbines as anything over 25 lb thrust is really serious overkill and not needed for this airframe plus the bigger turbines are rather thirsty and will restrict flight times dramatically when using the stock FB fuel cells. Ideally any of the newer smaller 18-22 lb thrust class turbines are best suited in my opinion for this airframe ie P-70, Merlin 90, Wren Super Sport, Kingtech K80, EvoJet 90. No noticible trim changes are required either when slowing and deploying flaps and/or speed brakes which is nice. The FB F-86 does lack some of the higher surface detail when compared to some other manufacturers offerings, but it certainly still does make a very good value and great flying sport scale intro jet no denying that.
Joe- are using the flaps and speed brakes?

RE: Fei Bao F86 Sabre
thanks for the info, as for landing speed, very managable with 60 degrees of flap and speed brakes on approach. it is very comparable to my composite reaction 54.
I guess I will get it ready to fly with the tanks and see how it goes. it flies fine without them, so I guess it must fly ok with them
thanks Kevin
