Default EFlite BAE Hawk EDF Rudder!

Guys

Just finishing an EFlight Hawk, We already have a couple flying around our team in stock configuration, nice aeroplane on 4s.
Seeing Hawks always KE so well, I decided to fit a rudder on my example.

I used the 35/72mHz aerial tube as the rudder snake and Razor saw'd the Rudder out before lining with balsa.

I'll let you know if it's worth the effort when I finish and fly it

David,

I am just about to finish mine. How about ppm, pcm or spectrum. I have heard of many problems with stray inductances and edf units...

Can i fly on 35Mhz ppm?

Regards

Morne

I would not risk it on PPM, but sometimes you get away with it, depends on ESC you are using.
We are all using 2.4, this is perfect for any electric model, the Hawk on 4s could be pushing 600W, that's a lot for a PPM Rx to cope with.

Dave,

Do you have any more pictures of your rudder install?

Can take as many as you need-what do you need more detail on?
I cut the rudder out (Razor saw 24TPI) on the scale line, used a 1/4" fun post in the fin and 3/8" in the rudder to allow for bevel.
3 cyno hinges, MA helicopter ball link (because of raked back fin)

Regards

I assume you sell these! What fan / motor combo do they run on? What size is it etc. And last but not least how much? I have a couple of 4s's so I won't have to buy them.

Best regards

We sell all the good stuff!

They do a fan/motor combo that works well and fits straight in.
What capacity cells do you have-we use 2500-3200 4s (also 3200 3s)

Model is 33" span, fan is 69mm and seems to work well.

Can PM price

Would the HET retracts or something similar fit in here? Also, is the DF unit pre-balanced at the factory or did you have to balance it before you put it in. Thanks!

Will pm you both with prices.

Wing is too thin for retracts, so I'm making a dolly using the original U/C parts. They hand launch OK too with a little wind to help...
It comes with fixed gear that we are using on two of the local guy's models, but it looks wrong with the wheels down!

Yes the fan is pre balanced, mine when checked was spot on! Nice quality fan unit at a good price.

No problem, doesn't look like I'll get to test fly it this weekend-so won't know till the week after whether it is worth the effort!

Did you ever get a test flight in? Was the rudder mod worth it?

There's a story!

I took it to my local grass strip and because I took the U/C off I made a dolly-the grass was (is) too long and after a couple of attempts a friend picked it up and offered to throw it...after saying no twice I gave in and said try it...the launch was not pretty (like a wet lettice!) This cracked the fuselage and broke the battery tray loose. [:@]
After picking up my toys, it's ready to try again but I'm waiting for the grass to be cut or a run way...let you know when I've flown it

Finally flown the EF Hawk with rudder, our grass still stopped the dolly working, so with my only trusted launcher still AWOL I decided to get someone else on the sticks and I would launch before taking over. Two flights today.
Yes the rudder is worth it, long slow rolls and knifedge passes are all possible now. Actually and really nice flying aeroplane!

4s 3200 cells and I'm getting 5 minutes flat chat

I happened to be standing in the right place at the right time as Dave shoved the transmitter into my hands so he could chuck the hawk. Lovely flying little EDF and really looks the part.

Dave I think I overheard you saying later you were going to build another one with rudder as this one's got a scratch on it [X(]

Does that mean this one is for sale ?

Gonflyer

Twice! Seeing my son couldn't get the shot I wanted you had to take it back again so I could get some shots!

You can have the airframe if you buy the inner bits!
