Hello,
this summer I will have my fairly large Hawker Hunter built and I was wondering if anyone had a good book for me to use as reference. I'm looking for color schemes (not the popular dark green cammo you see everywhere nor that newspaper flying billboard looking thing), types of armament, countries, etc... I found the walkaround book you get at the local hobby shop but that's just not cutting it for me.
If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate pointing me in the right direction.
Thank you.

My Hunter is from Airworld, they make a beautiful builders kit that can accommodate a tremendous amount of detail.

One of the best Hunter books with loads of colour schemes is the Warpaint book (google it) There is also a new book on the Hunter called the Hawker Hunter, the full strory. not at home at the moment so cant give you the ref.
Both of these books, however, (plus the Airworld Hunter unless they have corrected it ) show the leading edge extensions of the F6 onwards, wrongly. Reto Sens model has it correct.
Regards, David Gladwin.

For details (but not color info) I liked the book "Hawker Hunter" by Barry Jones; For some books that show some color stuff, I have "Hawker Hunter In Action : Aircraft number 121 squadron/signal publications", "Fighting Colors : Hawker Hunter in Color by Robbie Ribinson, squadron / signal publications", and "Aircam Aviation Series No 26 ; Hawker Hunter F.1/T.66 In Royal AIr Force & Foreign Service"
There's also a lot of Hunter stuff on the web. A good site is http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co...nter/index.php , but there are plenty of others.
There are also a load of Corgi Hunter modles around that you can get some color info from _ I bought about 6 of those when I was trying to decide what scheme to do for mine.
Fortunately the Hunter has a huge number of color schemes avaiable since it was so widely used. Some neat front-line squadron color schemes, plus FTS, Boscome, aerobatic teams like the Blue Diamonds, Black Arrows, Rode Duivels etc (see e.g. http://www.hunty.com.au/Reborn/hunter-aerobatic.html).

Just received a new book titled ' The Hawker Hunter - The comprehensive guide'. It is part of the modellers datafile series which are series of books specifically aimed at modellers(mainly plastic enthusiasts). Consequently they contain lots of info on different colour schemes, comprehensive 3 views and photos of the scale features.</p>
It has just been released this month and the ISBN no. is 978-9551858-9-2. Here are a few photos of a random selection of pages.
and before you ask Dick Ibought two copies

I was going to suggest this book as well. Wish I had a copy of the dwg on page 87!! [8D]
Page 64 has a nice color 3-view. I have a photo of this aircraft on page 8 of a japanese book called Famous Airplanes of the World No. 66 - Hawker Hunter.
A couple other good books that cover a particular color scheme in great detail are Mark 1 Guide: Hawker Hunter F.Mk6/6A and AeroGuide 9: Hawker Hunter F Mk 6/T Mk 7.
Look forward to seeing your Hunter!

Johnny, this was my brother Brian's personal Hunter. that he restored in the late seventy's under the wing of his company Ambrion Aviation in England . he had two Hunters bought from the Danish Airforce as surplus to requirements.... this one was registered G-Hunt and he also had A T7 side by side two seat trainer, which he registered G- Boom he sold them to a friend named Spencer Flack and Michael Carlton , both are dead now , Spencer in a vintage BRM in New Zealand and Michael in a republic sea bee in Africa when the wings folded ,,G -Hunt is supposed to be lying un airworthy at Oshkosh or somewhere... the blue and white scheme was as my brother had it painted..G boom is presently flying with the Royal Jordanian Air Force Heritage Flight in green and grey camo

Malcom and Johnny, I worked for Combat Jets Flying Museum in Houston back in 1987 and we bought G-HUNT at auction after Michael Carlton died. Had it shipped from the UK and reassembled and certified it in the US after some serious corrosion repair. I worked 7 days a week 12 hours a day for 5 months to get it to Oshkosh in 1988. The airplane was donated to the EAA in 1991 where it resides now. If you are interested you could probably buy it for $40,000. Our chief pilot was the chief test pilot at NASA Edwards and he said that the Hunter was the best flying plane he had ever flown so if the model flys anything like the real one you will be very happy. N611JR also had the best smoke system I have ever seen on any airplane. It didn't make smoke, it made clouds. Good luck with the build Johnny and keep us posted with pics. Mike</p>
