Default F2H2 Banshee Flying Model, do they exist?

Has anybody seen kits or plans for the Banshee? Lots of people think the only jets we used in Korea were Panthers, Sabres, and the occasional P-80, but there was one that did lots of work with not much fanfare, the F2H2 and F2H2-P photo recon variant. My grandfather was with the 1st Marine Photographic Squadron and I have plenty of pics for a great scale project. Heck, he's even in the "In Action" book for the plane.

The rub is that I can't find anything other than the old Guillows solid balsa kit I bought off Ebay and a few plastic kits. In case you've never heard of one...

I don't know of a model, but this is a great book that has a lot of information on the FH-1 Phantom & F2H Banshee. (this book is just fantastic)

One is getting ready to. I am doing one for someone but they are going to have to tell you more. He knows who he is.

It's a cool airplane for sure. My dad worked on the tooling for them. It would have to be a twin engine, but it would be awesome........

Tailwinds,

John

But does he know who I am? Agreed, it would be a sin to run a single turbine and have a bifurcated (or whatever they call them) pipe. Would be fun to fill those windows in the nose with some still and video cams too. Thanks for the tips Matt. I think one that fits a couple of P-60's or Wren 44's would be cool w/out breaking the bank.

well, glad to see others with interest in this jet. it is true that is under apreciated and she was a work horse. myself, woody and doc yates have thrown in and are building this jet. butch is doing the drawings and a foam plug. we will take her from there and glass the plug, flite metal it and add all panels, rivets, and screws then take molds. it will be 1/3.5 scale and need 2 p120's. hopefully top gun 2010. barry

target weight is as little as possible so we can compete. i think it will be around the mibo a10 weight. what she has going for her is the turbines will be on the cg. i will post pics as soon as i get the foam plug and will do a plug build thread. span is 153 and length is 147 barry

That is great that you are building a kit of the Banshee. It is kind of big for most guys though.

I always thought it would make a good flying model with its' straight wing.

I actually suggested it to Larry Wolfe of Jet Hangar Hobbies but he thought it would not be popular enough to make it sell.

I took many picture of one in the Canadian Naval Museum in Calgary , Alberta, CANADA

The RCN flew the Banshees off the HMCS Boniventure.

I would like to build a Banshee jet model as well some day.

I can't wait to see your Banshee fly.
