Default Robbe Bae-146 Question

May be getting one of these kits from a guy who has two unbuilt. Just wondering if these are hard kits to build. I realise that they are made of unfinnished styrene and thats about it.

I've also been told that Robbe hasn't made any more of these because on of the wing moulds have been lost.

So, my question is if these kits require a huge amount of to get in the air. I have no experience with jetliners and styrene kits.
I plan on getting it proffesionaly painted. The BAe 146 is my fav plane for the last 10 years and I've always wanted one.

It is a great flier. I cover my first one with low temp Monokote. My 2nd one I used Jap/silkspan tissue and water base polyuethane. I gave it a smooth light surface. I heard rumors that they were trying to bring the kit back. Good Luck with yours . You will enjoy it.

Hey bob, do u have any construction pics?? My friend paints cars for a living. Is it possible to paint the styrene after you make it smooth somehow, ie filler.

You must have wanted one REALLY bad to pay what he was asking for it!!! Have you flown a jet before - if not start with something else. Go over to E-zone and do a search. The guys over there are really knowledgable and lots of them have flown these.

I didn't buy one yet. The main reason why I'd like to get one of these is because it's my favorite jetliner and no one else makes such a kit. I can't seem to find one anywhere. I'd prob just build it and not fly it till I have lots of time on something else similar.

Eliminator,
I have been wanting one as well, but his price was alittle too steep for a kit that you can no longer get any support or parts for. If I read his ad correctly, the second kit does not have the EDF units which you would need to make it functional, I am not sure if Robbe still offers them or if there is a substitute, so I would ask a lot of questions first.

Hello guys,
I am the one offering these kits.

Doc Yates is right: The kits themselves are out of production and very hard to find. So, if you have a bad crash, chances to find spare parts are almost zero. But since the foam parts are easy to repair, slight damages shouldn't be aproblem to fix at all.

The edf set can still be purchased from Robbe, no problem at all.
The fans used are the Rojet 410 which can also be bought seperately (for single fan models like the Robbe Gnat - out of production, too). From what peaple say (have tested), the Rojet is a bad choice to mount inside a fuselage, but perfect and very reasonably priced to be installed in a gondola like on the BAe146.
Price for the edf set (4 Rojet 410s) for the Bae146 in Europe is about US$180.
If you cannot get it in the USA, you can tell me and I will add one to the kit for the original Robbe price.

I just talked to Robbe Germany about the rumor that bruff mentioned. They absolutely do confirm that neither the Bae nor the Dash production will be resumed. They told me that hundreds of people have asked for these kits, since production has stopped. Their argument is that they need to move forward and produce new kits. They did not mention the lost wing mold though.......

The kit is quite a bit of work! Especially if you intend to get a perfect surface. There will be a lot of sanding! Don't plan on having it up in the air, within a week!

I'll try to get some pictures to you, today.

If I had the money I would get the BAE-146 with EDF's. It's either get it now or pay even more later.

The BAC 146 is a great kit. It is not an ARF! I does bruises easiiy. For this reason I would cover with Low heat film. I covered mine with glass and epoxy and had a hard time taking out the hanger rash. Don't belive the wieght listed on the box. Mine came out at over 4 kG on 2000 x 20 cells and it glided like a 2m glider. With the 410/12 and rojets on 20 cells you will need a ESC that will handle 55+ amps. On 16 cells it flew great in temps below 20C. I balanced mine 10mm further back than on the plans. It flies like a traineer but it takes a lot of "e" knowlage to deal with this kind of "E"power.

Sorry no. I tried to sell it (give it away) but nobody wanted it. I had repaired it once before from a stall spin incident. You are correct that it was still quite repairable. One wing tip needed to be glued on and an engine pod. The front of the fuselage could be pieced together in about 2 hours and the rest built up with light spackle. That and 5 hours to refinish it could have been good as new if not better. I had lost my truck (transport) this is why I did not rebuild it. Foam is very easy to repair it is just not very durable.
