Thank you very much! I haven't broke mine yet .... but the operative work is YET! Do you know of a part number that can be ordered through an LHS or that an LHS can use to stock these little jems?

ORIGINAL: JWN. I find it interesting that the part numbers for all of the .18 engine parts are "HOT-XXXXX". Makes me wonder if this is a reference to Hot Bodies?

Hi guys a brief history lesson behind the actual motor mfg.
SHUWA INDUSTRY CO

The company is located in Japan of course and started back in 1993 as mainly a ft motor production facility. Althought they had many years prior 1977 into R & D

Main customer's are listed

ABC hobby /ACADEMY PLASTIC (Korea) /FANTOM RACING (the United States)
GENERAL SILICONES (Taiwan) corporation
HOT BODIES (the United States) /HPI group/the Japanese distant control corporation
K&B (the United States)
O.K model Corporation

They do mfg most of the motors including as listed above the Hot Bodies/HPI as well as the Quick .15-.18 helicopter motors.

The Toki fan unit was orig called the '' JOE FAN UNIT'' you can see an exploded view on my website in PDF format here

I've got fed up with the speed of my Cosair. (sorry)
It was great at the weekend, flew easy and fast down wind, but really struggled up wind. So have just bought the Kress Jets RK-740 fan and Picco 45 with pipe. Should produce around 7lbs thrust. My A7 only weighs 4.5lbs dry!!!!!!!! should really go now.

Dave
Will keep you posted!
crazy man... the rk740 is significantly larger than the toki... try 4.1 inches as opposed to 3.5. Do you even know if the fan load curve matches the picco 45?

this stuff drives me crazy... i've posted this over and over here at rcuniverse and do you think ppl get it?... even the stalwarts of the game.

i've had ppl tell me (and im talking ppl who make these fans) that the rossi's 7 hp claim is bogus... why?... coz they strapped it to the bvm fan or ramtec and it didnt give them more revs nor more thrust... well dah?... the fan has an associative load that corresponds to the speed it revolves at.. this is s function of the blade profile and size..and number of..(as well as diameter etc.) if your engine...AT ANY ONE POINT... through it's power curve, cannot match the fan load... then it will not spin past this..and hence will not generate the power claimed. That being said, once inlet velocity increases (i.e. flight or movement), the fan may get through the once previous static thrust limitation.

im not saying that the rossi claims are correct... what i am saying is that the conclusion from the testing is flawed. and maybe the rossi is correct.

there apparently are other issues with the rossi though... anyway..

BTW that edf site has an excellent ducted fan design guide in the catalogue... worth looking at and AFAICS looks to be sound.

Oh I forogto..

mount the kress rk720 to a hyper 4 port or 8 port and you'll get near 7 lb.

mount the hyper 4/8 port to the toki and you'll get over 5 lb.

go to

for fan charts...

Mark,
Thank you for the history lesson. It's good info. It looks like my assumption of the K&B and GS engines being the same, or closely related, was correct. I remember hearing about the Joe Fan Unit some time back but never paid any attention to it. It's interesting that the Toki unit is what came of it.

FWIW,

they are finishing their 0.21 engine right now. designed for cars, but will be tested for fan. may introduce a slightly diff fan for it depending on revs/power.

also they make a mini turbine..still not released.

and have a twin cylinder, gear driven 4 stroke designed and planned. (no pushrods).

I am sure that they are still avail.- just dont know where. I bought the last one that Tower had. I will ship mine to your door ready to fly with all radio gear installed, except for the transmitter for $300.00. Never crashed, properly broke in engine, scale painting and only ran 1 gallon of fuel through it . (30% Heli)

C'mon, you didn't really think I could get gear in there do you? It's still the original struts etc..... but with some minor modifications to give an great scale apperance to the overall look of an otherwise rather bland model!!!

Must be good,, It had you fooled

Ill take some detail photos and explain what i did so that you an others can do it if you want?

apparently it could be with the old toki set up. But i don't want to risk it with the new 45/kress set up. They'll be more power anyway!

B1,
Saw on another post that you were having trouble finding a suitable replacement for the ducting in you mig 15.
I now have the same problem. I need to make some more 4" ducting for the inlet and outlet on the A7.

What did you end up using?
Whats the lightest and strongest?

Thanks
Dave
