I don't think it is heavy enough to hold a dingy but I like the personalization.</p>

Yea, well.... I'll quit flying r/c and start throwing darts before I switched to these boat anchors. Hope your issue gets resolved, I love my 12x and curious to see what you find.
Boat anchor huh?, funny how i used tobe just like you and say that, what's even funnier is howi ate those words andran right to futabaafter unexplained crashes with my jr tx only to find a better product. Round here jr's motto is "feel the pain"... , i had always been strictly jr untill i went 2.4 and to further make me feel comfortable about my decision to switch, 4 different jr tx had to be be rebind at the field this weekend, it was like a flipping circus guys trying to figure out why they lost the bind and scared to fly fo fear of losing it again. Guess i can thank jr for putting out such a "wonderful " product while they were trying to figure it out i had the skies all to myself.

Okay guys, enough already! I started this thread to maybe get some help/info regarding an issue with my radio.

I'm really not interested in another JR vs Futaba pissing match!

Moderator please lock this thread! I have my answer.

I am always amazed at the dedication to products like the owners have stock in the Co. I started in RC with every kind of radio made everyone that knows me knows this is true. At the end of the day the 14 MZ gives you the most options that is why I use it. Finally sold off my 4 10x's just have a 9303 and a graupner to unload then I will be using the radio of choice for me. I would never call any of them boat anchors however if I want to stand on one leg holding the right arm in the up position will turning to the left to open sub menu x to program y then I would keep JR 12 X .

Ron
Ron,
Give me a break...all you know how to do with the 14mz is turn it on and off and wiggle the sticks around ??

TOO BAD,

It's a shame this thread took such a turn to the crapper!! I am seriously considering a 12X and would have loved to know what really happened and what was the fix, and isthis issuegoing to be addressed by Horizon and future radios updated to not have this problem. This WAS an important JR thread and the Futaba shills should have respected this and stayed out..................come on guys!!

David, if your not too fed up with this thread, would you please elaborate what actually happened and what you found in a fix. I would really love to know. Weather it's here or in a PM is cool with me.

Regards, Scott

SCOTT,

I spoke to an Horizon Hobbies support technician who confirmed that the radio would have to be sent back to them for service. They cannot give a firm answer as to the cause until they see the radio. I'll report whatever they tell me after they see it.

Man that sucks Dave and LA Jets is this weekend. How long have you had your 12X? I know it has a lot of time on it.

Ian,

I got it when they first came out.

What, a year ago? I forget.

Thanks Dave,

I await your findings here, or i'll talk to you about it Sat. at LA Jets. Sucks though since i am (was) thinking about getting one as i'm sure lots of others reading this were. I'm sure Horizon will do you a solid, as well as take care of this issue, but i think it makes sence to wait just a little longerbefore ipull the trigger on one.. I am a full on faithfull JR guy, so i WILL get one, i just want to see how this issue plays out. I have 2 10Xs on 72 and a 9X (9303) with a 2.4 modual,so i'm not hurting on radios, but i really want to merge into 2.4 with a 12X 2.4 and eventually sell the two 10Xs...

Let's not have a mass burning for all the JR radios just yet. I know a lot of people that own 12X's and this is the first I have heard with this problem. While I'm sure there are more, I think the percentage of occurrence is small. (Don't tell anyone, but I have also heard of receivers going bad too....both Futaba and JR!!)

My point is, while this is a serious pain in the rear, it does not appear to have occurred while it was "ON" so hopefully this will not occur mid-flight. An inconvenient trip to the service center will cure all, and be better than new.

Don't let incidents like this prevent you from buying equipment, JR or Futaba. The 12X is a great radio, as are the Futaba line of radios.

<div style="margin: 0in 0in 10pt"><span style="font-size: 7.5pt; line-height: 115%">All electronics, be an RC radio, a television or microwave oven has some probability of failing, which is why you get a warranty. All manufacturers know that despite their best efforts something can fail down the road that they simply cannot screen out. This is also why in man rated aircraft the electronics that are critical to flight safety must have redundant systems, because even with human life on the line they cannot guarantee 100% reliability.

This is a statistically insignificant event, a true pain in the rear to the guy it happens to, but should not affect your buying decisions. This sort of stuff happens to all the brands out there.

UPDATE:

Shipped my radio back to Horizon. They received it into their system on 5/25. Got it back today, 7 weeks later. Needed a new encoder board. Model memory erased.

I get to re-program 5 jets from scratch.

Moral of the story: Use your data safe!

Called Hobbico, just for the hell of it, to see what service turnaround on a 14MZ was. Tech told me 4-5 DAYS after receipt.

David,

Sadly, and despite the fact I'm a huge fan of Futaba systems, I have to say that the futaba US service is pretty bad. Feel free to pm me if you want details. I really doubt that you would get something done in 4-5 days. Or maybe I'm just very unlucky.

I got my 12FG back from maintenance in 10 days. I also got my 7C back in 7 days from the firware update (ZGUID issue).

Pretty good to me.

Doug.
