2009 Liberty Bell Jet Rally - Updated info!
It's hard to believe but it's less than 2 months until the 2009 Liberty Bell Jet Rally! Cindy and I have been putting the finishing touches on the event in hopes of providing everyone with a great time in PA. As in previous years, this is a jet flyers event - no stopping for noon time shows, demos, etc. Just non-stop flying from 0900-1800 Thursday 30 July through Saturday 01 August and 0900-1400 on Sunday 02 August.
We have a number of sponsors and vendors that will be on hand to show their jet "stuff" and lighten your credit card a bit. Eric Clapp and Jet Central will be sponsoring the Friday night steak dinner. Thanks Eric! The Saturday banquet will take place at Hennegan's Restaurant, same as last year.
Lodging - It seems that some of the front desk workers at the Holiday Inn Express are forwarding reservation calls directly to the HIE call center and they are misquoting prices. The guaranteed rate for LBJR attendees is $110 per night, which is very reasonable during the Hershey tourist season. I spoke with the general manager of the HIE today and she requested that reservations be made directly to their hotel at 717.367.4000. If you are quoted anything other than $110, please go ahead and make the reservation and they will adjust the price to $110 when you register. Please make sure that you tell them that you are with the Liberty Bell Jet Rally.
On site RV camping is available to registered pilots only. Please let me know in advance if you'll need space so we can plan for your parking.
Foamies - We have decided not to permit flying of foamies during the event hours. They may be flown after hours over the open grassy area to the south of the runway.
Even though Uncle Joe has abandoned us, he is still our weather potentate from afar. I trust that he will chime in and give us the weather forecast!
Cindy, I , and the rest of the LBJR gang will do our best to see to it that you have a great time. As always, we look forward to having our friends, old and new, return to Pennsylvania.

Mike,
Funny you should post this right now. I just talked to the wife and I decided to try to make plans to come home for vacation from Afghanistan to make the trip up this year. Imissed last year because of "work" and this will be the only event Iget to attend this year. The plans are in the early stages, but it looks promising that I'll finally get to make it once again. I just need to find out if I can mooch some pit space to share, maybe Kerry and Tom or even Eric will take me in; I'd better get working on that too.
Well, I hope everything works out and I see you guys at the end of July/beginning of Aug.

Although I'm 2358 miles from Liberty bell rally site, I will be the weather potentate as I still have a direct live to Gus the head groundhog ,and you know how accurate their predictions are .So Here it is, Daylight from the hours of 05:28 hrs followed by darkness about 20:36 hrs , Temps in the Hi 80's with a 20 % of thundershowers in the late afternoon & early evening.....
Mike & Cindy if the Gods are good ( If I can get things squared away here, buying a house on a short sale, & don't know when settlement will be),I just might show up to take a few photographs, even if it just one day.
BTW How HIGH is the corn?

As always, you're right on the money with the hours of daylight. How doooo you do that?? Looking forward to you coming back east again. Let me know what I can do to make it happen.

Hi Mike,
Karen and I will be there. Got the $110 package from the Holiday Inn, no issue. Did Uncle Joe got shorter or is the corn really that high? Can't wait!!

Hi Mike & Cindy
I'm ready to go. See you at setup. I don't think I will need the taser.

Good to hear that you're ready. Gonna be another great year with you at the helm on the flightline. Don't be so quick to put the Taser away!

Big news, actually short news, jet pilots....Cindy and I went to Donegal Springs Airpark today and found no corn in the overfly field. The 12 foot high corn wall was somewhat intimidating, now there is a hay crop that has already had one cutting. Shouldn't be any higher than 2 feet for the Liberty Bell Jet Rally.

That's GREAT news Mike. I remember the first year there.
Getting closer, wife got the room reserved (she's coming again) and she's getting ready to send in the registration; now I just got to get myself home, can hardly wait!

Mike, I'll be there with rest of the Maryland guys early Thursday along with Buddy Scott. We'll take the same spot at the right end of the pits if possible. It was so exciting there last year. Ron
