RE: What Switch for A123 batteries?
I believe the JR Gold switch is rated at 5 amps. The electrodynamic switch above says that its rated at 8 amps.
What good is it to have a switch rated at 5 or 8 amps though, if the switches are using standard plugs which are only rated at 3 amps? Your set up is only as good as its weakest component.
Don't use standard connectors anywhere between your battery and your rx.
The minimum dual switch set up I would recommend is a Fromeco Wolverine with Deans in and Deans out. It's 2 switches in one unit. Each switch is rated at 15 amps, and the Deans connectors are rated at 50 amps. You could "upgrade" to the Kodiak switch which is rated at 30 amps, but costs more.
I like to use the simple little switch that comes with the JR powersafe rx's. If you are a JR guy, you have this option. The switch is free, since it comes with the rx. This one switch controls both batteries, is failsafe, and this switch does not limit current flow in any way because it is not an inline switch. The current flows directly to the rx without flowing through the switch.

The Fromeco Kodiak switch will tell you how many mah's you've used, and does not have a built in reg. It was designed specifically for A123 batteries.
The Digitech switch is probably better suited for Li Ion and LiPo batteries.

RE: What Switch for A123 batteries?
Hi Tom
I have changed all my batteries to A123 and have eliminated the switches as well
I use Smart Fly power boxes and have a 2 inch extension comming from the Smart Fly
I also have the same comming from the rx for non Smart Fly setups
Works great so far ,just one less thing to fail, all the connections are Deans
Good Luck
Ted

As we are talking about a two cell pack, an ordinary JR or Futaba charge point can be used as the ballance connector, just change the plug from the battery and make up a ballance lead to fit your charger.
I must admit the Kodiak switch does give me piece of mind when flying around an expensive Jet I know how much power is left in the batteries before I take off and can check after I come down, the Mah read out gives me a confidence boost that the servo's are still operating within limits and are not being stalled or overworked during the flight.

RE: What Switch for A123 batteries?
I know this thread is for dual bats., but, I 'm looking for recs.
My problem is that I use a heavy duty JR switch in my plane. This week
end after the maiden, both flas frozed. servo travel very hard. I tried them with another
reciever and they did'nt work, so I discarded them. Placed new ones, BUT after
some time they became very warm. Considering using a regulator/ switch.
Any ideas or recomendations>
Thanks
Hector
