Jet Legend CT-114
Hi Guys:
Heres is my share on my almost done CT-114. Although I have built a few turbine jets for some friends, I would have prefered some guidelines but there where none but a simple plan. Radio is a JR12x, Rudder, Ailerons and Flaps are JR8411, Elevator JR3421, Steering Futaba 9402, Turbine with very low hours is a Jetcat P-70 with 6.0 ECU, retracts are Jet Legend with Robart air valve (Jet Legends is too slow), Installed gear doors on wings and nose also with Robart air valve and Mini Hobby door sequecer. Batteries are Fromeco 4 cell 7.2 volts, 5,200 mhA., Fromeco voltage regulator and Fromeco On-Off Switch. Also included is the full scale cockpit.
Horizontal stab seems strong enough but I have seen another CT with a very loose one. Dont think this kit is good for higher speeds and manouvers rather for learning and traning the flight of turbine aircraft.
Did not install the wing servos on the servo covers but directly on the wings but had to installed a little higher (did not want to use bigger servo horns)., push rods are Ok, however clevises are not very flexible and when you opened them to put them on the horn, they kind of staye opene. Had to close them with pliers and use the small clevis lock which turned out to be kind of fragil as well (broke three just trying to install them).
Wing seems to be very stong and I dont expect any surprises. The top of the nose happened to be separated about 1.5 inches. Had to reglue and reinforce from the inside.
I managed to install two aditional 24 oz. fuel tanks (not show on the pictures) below the two air tanks. That means 48 aditional ounces of fuel. Main tank has not been measured but I estimated areound 40-50 oz making a total of 90-100oz of fuel.
Exterior of metal by pass is too thin for my taste and gets easily wrinkled when touches another surface. Rudder servo and pushorod are very close of metal pipe so I decided to install some isolating material in between just in case.
Gear door instalation finished fine but lots of work had to be done to have the work properly. The gear doors on the wings had to be worked as they touched the gear and did not close completely.
I expect to run the turbine very soon, still need to install servos and pushrods on one wing. I will post some moere pictures when ready. I would like to have some comments from other CT-114 owners.
Regards,
Christian

Hi All,
Warning on Fuel System:
We found out that the original tank on the JL CT-114 has some dead corners that won't allow engine to suck in suffcient fuel when the tank is 1/2 to 1/3 full. We had just completed some modifications and designed a new set of fuel tanks that will solve this problem. If you want to get the tanks, we will have them ready in about 2 weeks.
Don't fly inverted or side ways (over 25 degree of banking), when the fuel level is below 1/2.
I will post some photos of these tanks. You can send an email to [email protected] for buying the upgraded tanks.
Thanks

Mike

RE: Jet Legend CT-114
Hi MIke:
Isomehow noted that this could happen. I saw a picture from another CT-114 colelague (don't remember his name) who installed the tank with the fuel pickup to the frot instead of the top. This I believe would help also. Nevertheless Im also interested in you proposed tanks. I managed to locate two aditional 24 oz tanks eachon each sideof the turbine allowing more flight time. This somehow would also help not to consume to very low levels the main tank.
Please keep me posted on the new tanks.
Regards,
Christian

RE: Jet Legend CT-114
Well, the original tank is too short and too wide so there is a large area to swing the clunk around to get the fuel. The fuel line is not long enough to reach the sides of fuel tank so if you are low on fuel and in a bank, the clunk will be sitting in the air and not sucking fuel, causing possible flame out. However, this Snow bird glides very well in a dead stick, as witnessed at California Jet. A pilot was flying it all day long despite a few flame outs. He just glided it back and land and refuel and go again. Everytime we look up we see that bird flying all the time. This is going to be a good trainer, but need to modify a few area to make it better in overall quality.

RE: Jet Legend CT-114
Even if you ad a heavier clunk the fuel line will be to short to reach those areas when at a high bank angle. Icertainly cannont rely on the good flight characteristics expecting on every flight a flameout and then go back fuel and fly again. I rather have another tank (Mike I will be waiting for your proposal) where the clunk and fule line will be able to reach as much as possible when at higher bank angles. On the other hand a roll or two will not do any harm however if I want to fly a few circuits inverted it would be out of the question as well.

Nice but a little late for me to install. You have to modify a former to do so. What is the size of that tank?. Do you have any idea what is the capacity of the main tank that comes with the kit?.

Hi Christian,
The tank size is 56.5 oz. The original one is about 60oz. there are still plenty of room for 2 Sullivan saddle tanks 16 oz each, so you can have a total of 85oz or more, enough for 10 + minutes of flying.

You may want to consider trimming your duct back a bit. Since it is not a full bypass installation, you will need airflow up and around the turbine and into the exhaust pipe

RE: Jet Legend CT-114
comet68, it looks very clean and sanitary...the only thing I noticed is that the vent line for the main tank has not been installed yet.
My friend has one, and he cut the intake back about 3/4 - 1" to let some air bypass the turbine. Even then he finds the fuselage gets warm at the point where the exhaust enters the exhaust tube...this just happens at slow speed, on the ground, with the hatch on... In flight, with no wasted time on the ground, it is fine. I suspect you will find the same, or perhaps worse when the canopy hatch goes on......
