Default What would you do with this setup?

Ok I scored a electric power package.
Figured why not and decided to give it a whirl.

I got an E-Turbax fan
motor is a Neu 1524/1.5Y
controller is a Castle 110
I more than likely will be running 2 5s packs together.

Now I have two airframes just about ready but can't decide which this should go in.
1st I have a Yellow A/C Stingray that I have had for several years sitting in primer and ready to paint.
To me this seems like it would be a load of fun with this power plant. Only not sure how to mount it to this airframe?

2nd is an old Flighcraft (I think was the manufacturer) F-20 tigershark.
This has a bit more work to get ready, but looks cool. It was going to fly on a dynamax/kbv .72 back in the day, but never was finished.

Which way should I go?

I would go for whatever gives you the lighter wing loading. One drawback to electric setups is that your landing weight is exactly the same as your takeoff weight. This can bite you on landing if you have a high wing loading. I speak from experience and have seen it happen to others, recently.

F-20! The Stingray is neat, but seems kinda wasted on fan power. Besides, there are delta planes all over town, but not that many F-20's, especially in that size. Good luck either way!

The F-20 would be better. The E-Turbax can use the same ducting as the glow Dynamax fan. One observation though, the E-Turbax setup you have is for 12S. It will run on 10S but at significantly reduced powered.

Ronnie,

was the flightline the same size as the cressline? that might be a lot of bird for an e-turbax

It was the kit that became the cressline I believe.

It's 72 inches long. Supposed to be 11-12lbs finished with glow power.

I decided to do the F-20

Kirk, how much of a power loss am I looking at?
I was reading the JHH website and they showed it as a 10S setup

Ronnie,

I just checked the Jet Hangar website and you are correct. Sorry for the confusion. I misread the motor you motor you have. I thought it was the 1527.

Was that a a F-20 from FlightTech? I had one of those in the mid 90's.

I thought it was FlightKraft? I could be wrong, it's an old kit. FlightTech may be the company. I'm pretty sure it became Cressline

if the f-20 is a cressline kit,the c/g is way off!!!!! i may have been the only guy to get one to fly..it did fly great!! os dynamax. i made the ducting myself. stock ones sucked..it weight 12 lbs. flew 155 mph..if you use the c/g they tell you,it sits to heavy on the nose. will not rotate!! the fying c/g is also wrong.. i had to fill the, pre cut, gear holes and start from scratch. figure c/g before you start your build.. i know 4 guys who built the kit,,none flew...they were very fast ,on the ground.. its worth building.. i wish i had another.. sold mine.. rd c/g was off two inches by the way....do not include the leading edge exstention in your c/g calc.....
