Default Canard throw help...

I'm having one heck of a time dialing down the throw on my canard for the fej rafale. The book says 12mm. I have a 12fg and have the throws and limits down all the way. Still too much. The funny thing is that the assmebly was installed per the manual with the included hardware. I even moved the ball link in 2 holes on the servo arm. It helped but not enough. The only thing I can think of doing is using DR to cut down what I have. A smaller servo arm is not possible since the ball link will rub the servo. On the canard end there is nothing that can be done as the instal was the factory recommended. Hoping some owners of this aircraft will get in here. Jeremy I know you said you had the airplane ready to go at the field but aborted due to air leaks. What do you think bro?

Thanks! Pete

Rich,

Pete has a FlyEagleJets Rafale; your build thread is for a Fei Bao Rafale which is considerably larger. Still, there is lots of good stuff in the build thread and maybe that can help Pete.

One way you might consider is on my fb rafale I had the canards linked to my retract switch so that they were only functioning when the gear was down, ie take offs and landings as they werent needed for flying. Hope this helps

Pete,

I used a small Futaba servo wheel and had the horn on the canard axle at the furthest most limit. I set the ATV rates at 100/100 and then created a programmable mix to master elevator so I can switch the canards on and off. I then reduced the travel values in the programmable mix to 75/75.

Thanks guys, Jeremy, Was that for the FEJ rafale? How did you overcome the problem of the ball link rubbing the servo? did you bolt through the other side of the wheel? (left to right if looking down into the deck with the airplane facing you)

Yep...it was the FEJ. I did not use ball links. I used clevis' on each end of the rod.

Sounds like you need to talk to someone who knows how to program your transmitter. It's best to use the innermost position on the servo arm and the outermost position at the control horn. You should be able to set your travel anywhere from 0 to 100% and your mix anywhere from 0 to 100%. I'm not familiar with the 12FG, but I'm sure it has the capability to do essentially the same thing that I did with my JR 9303. Here's basically how my Gripen is set up:

Select Delta or Elevon mode. One elevon is plugged into the aileron channel and the other into the elevator channel. Read your manual, I'm sure it covers how to do this. Put canards on an aux. channel mixed to elevator (you should be able to set whatever mix rate you need). I use two mix functions so that the 3 position switch can be used to switch canards between full travel, half travel or off. For example Mix 1 could be 50% of elevator and Mix 2 25% of elevator. You can also set the end points for the aux. channel to give the desired travel.

I can't tell you specifically how to program a 12 FG, but I'm sure there are others who could help.

Good luck,
Joe
