My Feedback: (19)
Recently purcahsed an Avonds F15 and would like to know the folowing:
It came with sheeted wings and the fuselage is gray.
I see the nose section has to be joined or bolted together then reinforced with glass cloth. Just how difficult is it going to be to do this. I would assume there is going to be a small seam to fill and is this a weak point?
Would this kit be safe for a turbine installation?
thanks

Do you have the turbine or DF model? IF you have the DF model, I strongly suggest you contact Philip Avonds and get the DF to turbine conversion kit...especially since the kit isn't built yet.
I think the key to joining the nose section is getting a good fit with the bolts installed and make sure the nose section is straight. I used hysol 9462 to join the nose and used glass cloth impregnated with 9462 to reinforce the joint. You also tape over the outside of the fuse joints and CA balsa sticks in place to keep everything aligned.
Any questions for Philip Avonds can be directed here: [email protected]
I also have a thread that I started dealing with some of the construction techniques and that can be found here:

Let me know if I can be any more help to ya!

My F-15 is a PA120 which is a turbine kit for over 10Kg/22lbs of thrust. It has carbon fiber reinforcement throughout. I am setting mine up for a Pegasus turbine (28lbs) although I have not purchased one yet.

9462 is an epoxy adhesive for high strength bonds i.e formers to fuse, wing spar nose to body etc. It can be found at this website:

You really do need to corespond with Philip though as he can best direct you how to do a conversion on your model. He also has all of the parts to do it right. And what turbine to use since it won't have all of the carbon fiber reinforcement unless you do it yourself.
