Sadly our hobby has lost a wonderful member today, Vern Kramer.
It is with such sadness that I tell you that Vern Kramer passed away on the 14th August at 14:05 peacefully in his sleep having been unable to beat cancer.
Jo and I met the “Kramers” (Vern, Beulah and Larry) in November 2001 at the Florida International Jet Rally, we had come over from the U.K. for a holiday, but mainly to see the “Jets” in action with some good weather. Vern invited us to stay under his tent, as he was very worried that we would get sun burnt being out in the sun all day. This was the beginning of a wonderful relationship.
The following year we returned but this time with models and had a great time at FIJR. After the meeting was over we then travelled south to stay in Naples and sample the delights of the south west of Florida.
This led to us becoming good friends and meeting up with Vern and Larry all over the USA. We have kept 2 models in a storage unit ever since and wherever we went the models would follow. On 3 occasions Vern and Larry brought them up to Indiana to Tim Redelman’s meeting ‘Jets over the Heartland’. We would never have been able to fly direct into Chicago and have such a wonderful time had it not been for them.
Master builder and Master painter, Vern will be well remembered for his stunning models, BVM Bandit and BVM Kingcat, to name but 2, always winning trophies at many events around the country. The number is too many to recall, but if ever you stopped by his tent he was always happy to show you his models and explain how the building and painting was done.
Recently he purchased a ‘Boomerang Elan’, well this was just fantastic, always a good pattern pilot, he was just ever so happy to come out to field with his Brit friends and give the Boomerang a good fly. He was just able to relax that bit more and really enjoy each flight. Not to mention the hundreds of flights he put on his famous Compensator.
I was fortunate to spend a week with Vern in May this year, we went to the field each day and just messed about and flew planes, talked about this and that for hours, sat under the tent while it rained, but none of it mattered as we were just having a good time. His trust was wonderful, on one occasion he offered me a flight on his Venus with the single stick tx, I was well made up seeing I fly mode 1. I am happy to say all ended well.
I have lost a friend, a second father; the hobby has lost a great builder, painter and a true ambassador of the “Jet scene”. Vern I do hope that everyday has blue skies and no wind, endless Jet A and that you have many more flight with you’re your friends.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Buelah, Larry, Sheila, Diane and the rest of the family.

ESPRIT,
No-one could have said it any better. I feel for your loss as I have had one as well. It's a sad day when we lose a modeler/ friend of this caliper. No-one could add better than what you said. Hang in there.

Words at a time of loss are not easy. . .our prayers are with Larry and family in the loss of father, husband, mentor and friend.
Jet Central extends our condolences to all. We have truly lost an ambassador of the hobby who was always at the top of his game. His contagious smile would always bring you to your own "field of dreams" when things just weren't going right.
Our time with Vern and Larry at jet meet after jet meet are memories which will remain at the top of great experiences. There is no doubt that our Heavenly ruler has something set aside for Vern to clearcoat. . . .
Jet Central was truly blessed to have Vern wearing our Red shirt.

I am sorry to hear about your father, he will be deeply missed by all. I can tell you that it was a honor to know him as he is a wonderful fellow that I looked foward to seeing at the events. If you need anything let me know I am only an hour away.

Sad day....I first met Vern at the Kentucky Jet Rally several years ago. We were set up right next to them. I was one of the "new guys" yet he was extremely nice and helpful at all times. He was a perfect gentleman and the knowledge he takes with him can never be replaced.
Some of the most incredible paint jobs I have ever seen on jets have been done by Vern. His work reminded me of professional paint jobs you see on high end race cars. Such a tremendous loss to the community.
Like others have said, he is in a place now that offers him calm clear days to fly to his hearts content.
Farewell, you will be missed by all.

I met the Kramers and Francis at jets over Deland in the 90's. Since then Vern and Larry have continually set the bar by which all other models and modelers are judged. Vern's attention to detail will never be duplicated. I am a better modeler because of him. Tommy Wood

A very sad day ! We knew that Vernon was ill at Ky Jets but I did realize he was near his death bed.
I go way back with Vern, Larry & Francis to the Jets Over LeLand days.
Good Folks, God Bless and may the Wings of Angels bring us together again, Roger

Sorry to hear this Larry, chin up, your dad was one of the great ones, no doubt about it. I'll never forget that time Bryce and I came over for the dinner after FIJR and Bryce was showing all those movies clips, your dad was laughing to tears with all those brit's falling over as well. That's how I always remember him.

Sean

Vern was one of the best builder and painters I have ever seen. His craftsmanship always made me want to build a better model. I really enjoyed spending time with the Kramers.... something I wish I could have done more often. A great modeler.. a great pilot...and someone I will always look up to.
