Default Bendix O-Ring Question

Ok Guys,

I need a little 101 on O-rings in my bendix. I'm talking about my little T-500. The o-ring in it looks to be 1/2" od X 1/4 id and the section looks 1/8. It must be a narrow margin between good contact and bottoming out on the bottom of the bendix cup with the Comp nut. In fact, it looks like it would be a better contact if the ID was 1/32 smaller on the ID. I know when you put it in the brass cup of the bendix it will tighten up some. The size of the O-Ring is not a normal size. Are all the o-rings in all of your starters about this size. I know the bendix got to where it would not operate today and I took it off and lubed it a little. Looks like it's ok now. Any comments will be Appreciated.

Thanks Roy

Do a search in the forum for JetCat o-rings. Someone listed a source or found one at McMaster Carr. That size sounds close to what a Jetcat uses

MACE, I think that is my delemma. What works for one may or may not for another. The closest thing found for a match to my ring is a 202. This is also considered a non-normal size. thanks for your input. I'm hoping that someone that has had a T-500 in the past will type in, as that is the starter I have on my turbine.

The Ram o-ring is not the same as Jetcat. I tried several different standard o-rings in my Ram 500 and couldn't find one that fit just right.

The best source for the correct Ram (and T-500) o-ring is Carlos at RTI. I believe it's a metric size but never researched it to find out which size. I gave up and called Carlos before I got that far.

Joe, As far as I can tell it's a 202!! This is not a normal size ring and in fact like you say may be a metric size. Anyway, there's none in this small town of mine. Ha. I will have to order them from Mc-Master Carr. Thanks for posting.

The Jetcat and others use a 12mmOD 6mmID 3mm thick O ring

Hooker,

Why don't you just order from Carlos? That way you'll be assured of getting the correct size.

One trick that will work for a while is to turn over the o-ring and re-install it. It's also a good idea to put a drop of CA in the grove before installing the o-ring to keep it from slipping.

Joe
