A friend of mine is flying one. From his experience, I highly recommend building the version with the sport wing. The thicker airforl and larger wing area make it much less susceptible to tip stalls on final. Much more pleasant to fly than the scale wing.

The newer kit with the fan further forward is great. The benifits are two fold, it allows for saddle tanks closer to the C.G. verses the tanks behind the cockpit. Secondly, the fan is more efficient when placed closer to the inlet opening. Whether it's the sport or scale wing, I'd install the split flaps. This minor modification is well worth the effort and you'll enjoy the results on landing (speed and stability). I have the old version A-4 with the O.S .91 Dynamax, JMP pipe package, split flaps, and spring air retracts and it's a blast to fly. When I moved back to Albuquerque New Mexico I once again pay close attention to warm days with density altitude approaching 8000 on warm days. Needles to say June through September I don't fly it much if at all because of the reduction of thrust. I imagine if I were to do it again I'd install the RAMTEC for the added thrust. Enjoy the kit and watch for the wing waggle in flight, it's talking to you saying you pull much more on the stick and it'll be snapping.

Yeah, I live down in Carlsbad, New Mexico. I bought this kit off a guy. It is already glassed. I guess I could install the split flaps on it. It is the older kit design. What do I need to watch out for when flying this jet and how does it handle both high speed and low. How should I approach the landing on this jet.

High speed, no big issues except pay attention to the wing waggle, especially if it's the scale winded version. My flying partner has had several scale winged version and pulling to hard and not paying attention to the waggle will cost you a rebuild. As for the landing, set up is the key. Once you enter downwind, drop the gear and about 30%- 40% flaps and of course add the power to keep the slow speed going. As you enter base to final add some power in the turn, roll out and establish the decent. Manage power as required to get down to 4-5 feet then transition with minimal power to flare attitude at about 2-3 feet and the rest is roll-on. Don't get too crazy with the stearing or you'll be working on wing tips.

Have an A4 with the sport wing and Dynamax fan/JMP II pipe system. Ground Handling...the A4 tends to want to wheelbarrow down
the runway...if trimmed a slight amount of UP it will infact fly itself off the runway...if not then it will wheelbarrow until you rotate. If
you try to fly to slow or get the nose attitude very high just after lift off then you will stall the wing...and since it is a Delta wing it will
stall from the rear outboard section inward and foward...the result is a very noticable pitch up to about 60 degrees or more and no
elevator effectiveness...ie. CRASH if you are not very lucky. The A4 slows down nicely once the gear is down and you should have a
nice nose high landing attitude carrying some power to control the descent rate. I have brakes on mine and they work nice ...but
once again if applied to much to fast, the aircraft will wheelbarrow...I would put some nylon wing skids (carl goldberg) on each wing
tip to protect the fiberglass from rubbing on the runway. The weak link in the gear is the nose strut...the piano wire that connects the
Robostrut to the retract will bend on just the slightest pressure...be careful. Wow the crowd with a low pass and ROLL...the roll rate is
uncontionable...
